The G's offered Abreu a 3-year deal before he signed with Houston.

They’re gonna land one of these they’re competitive on sooner or later. Been in too many of these down to the wire lately.
Sounds like they have been more unlucky than anything else in some of their moves lately...

Any chance they pivot to Josh Bell?
A Boras client who doesn’t exactly smoke LHP?
I doubt it.
Haniger has been on my "Plan C" list for awhile. As an additional piece, I like it. As the "BIG" off-season pickup?... Not so much. How about Mitch Haniger?.. a RHH RF'er/DH.. has never played on the dirt & probably not a great idea, anyway.. Has come back from a series of non-chronic injuries and pandemic over the last couple seasons to hang some pretty decent numbers.. His contract demands are unknown... but, there will be no Quality Offer ($ 19.7 MM) attached as the Mariners have declined to offer him one. It could be Haniger's looking for a long term deal.. If that's the case.. the Guardians can/should move on.. but if he's after a pillow.. then there might be some interest..
Edit: he's a lifetime .260/.335/.735 hitter.. including about 50 points higher against LHP's..
oh.. and btw.. Apex is his agency, so, no boras tie in...
Thoughts?
If no Bell, seems trade market may be more viable now (or look at JD Martinez). Not many FA 1B left that are clear upgrades.
My opinion.
Turn to trade options (Walker, Cron).
That doesn’t pan out, turn your attention to the best pure hitter to try and plug the DH hole (Martinez, etc.).
That doesn’t pan out, move to plan C with Mancini, Drury, etc. and move that remaining money into another position or extension.
Any rumors on extensions?
