If the roster clears out some more what would we think of Yuli Gurriel? He's obviously out of the Astros now and while he struggled a bit he seems like a "clubhouse" kind of guy who still can hit lefties. Not the sexiest option but has always seemed like an option at least.

Seems like his defense has fallen off a cliff though... that is worrying if we expect to play OGonz at DH some

Was always getting $20m AAV the moment Rizzo signed his deal. Only questions with Abreu was length and guarantees/opt outs.
The Astros are closing in on a deal with free agent first baseman José Abreu. It will be a three-year deal for $19.5MM per season, bringing the total to $58.5MM. The deal is pending a physical.

Abreu, 36 in January, has spent his entire big league career with the White Sox thus far, but it seemed likely as the season was winding down that they were ready to let him switch jerseys in 2023. With many other first base/designated hitter candidates on the roster, such as Andrew Vaughn and Eloy Jimenez, the thinking was that they would let Abreu walk and dedicate their resources elsewhere, which now appears to have come to pass.

Rosenthal said that Jose Abreu may prefer to play for Miami or Tampa, so that he's closer to home.
Not sure one can issue a bigger 'fuck you' to the franchise than 'I would rather play for the two franchises that are cheaper than you'. Good news is they were never in on him anyway. Gs got bigger fish to fry for that open 1B/DH role.

Now this makes more sense. Astros seem to know what they are doing.

Actually, it's not illegal to travel to Cuba. You need a US Passport and a Cuban visa, which you can get with your airline ticket.
If anybody from RCF goes, maybe spread some good words about the Guards.

It's harder for a guy like Abreu to go back to Cuba, but restrictions haven't been as bad in recent years, but he really shouldn't go on paper...

They told me no Americans whenever I arrived in a raft two weeks ago.

I can try again if we think it’ll land a power hitter.

The GREATEST Cuban pitcher the Tribe ever had.
El Tiante. From the night he had 19 K's in 10 innings. (Don't know the pitch count). :chuckle:
