2023 Season | Series #25 | Brewers @ Guardians | June 23-25, 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Unbelievably bad at-bats by Jose and Josh Naylor in the 10th. Jose swung at four pitches out of the zone - three of them way, way out. The 3-2 pitch was in the dirt in front of home plate and he swung. Just gave away a crucial at-bat. That had to be Jose's worst at-bat of the season.

Then Naylor also swung at two pitches well out of the zone and got himself out. The Brewers pitcher was trying to give us the game but we kept helping him out. The contrast between the very disciplined Brewers hitters who consistently took close pitches for balls even with two strikes and the Guardians lunging after pitches way outside and in the dirt was striking.

Tito got burned on the Straw insertion. He deserved it. Straw should not be playing except in the bottom of the 9th if we have a lead and he's not due up for three innings. We'll see if he tries that again.

Nice to see Bo get a couple of hits. I was afraid he was going to start his career 1-for-100.

Owen Miller got his revenge with two doubles, both of which drove in a run in a 5-4 win.

More Tyler Freeman and David Fry, please. Does Tito even look at batting averages?

We needed a better start out of Civale. In the third inning they started jumping on his first pitch and dinged him for three quick runs.

There have been lots of dumb in-game managers in baseball. Tony LaRussa jumps to the front of that line. But Tito has not been a good in-game strategist in a while. Today was just another example. Actually, Tito gives us MULTIPLE head scratchers in many games. Today - taking out Freeman to pinch run Straw, who hasn’t stolen a base since May fucking 18th! Granted, Straw should have been on 2nd as the interference call on Arias was ridiculously wrong. But he tried again and was thrown out. Then, why was Arias batting in the first place? Bell is sitting on the bench, he’s not been worth his paycheck but he should bat instead of Arias 100 times out of 100. Tito spits sunflower seeds with both thumbs up his ass and what should we expect besides failure? Then, later we have Straw batting with the game on the line. That could have been Freeman batting. Or it could have been Bell batting, since Tito didn’t bat him for Arias earlier!
My fucking head is spinning. Tito is terrible.

Arias' four at-bats:

Dribbler back to the mound.
Weak grounder to second.
Pop up to the infield.
Strike out.

Not a ball out of the infield in four at-bats against RHP's, whom he actually hits better than lefties. But hey, he can play both right field and third base in the same game! He's valuable!

We're dying for hitting, especially right-handed, yet Freeman and Fry are still giving up at-bats to Arias and Straw.

Just put Frye in right, Brennan in center, and Freeman can be the UIF.

Nothing will change till Tito retires. The front office will never fire him, nor will they confront him about his management skills or lack thereof. And people like Andre Knott are cheerleaders, not reporters. Give Andre some Pom poms.

The front office needs to send Arias back to Columbus. I'd like them to DFA Straw but they would look like idiots having just given him a long term contract.

Hopefully, Tito is a long way from retiring, and hopefully, nothing changes. (Although a bigger budget would be nice.)

I kinda like watching one of the winningest teams year in and year out in baseball.

Can't ask for much more than to have your fastest man in scoring position, no outs, and your 3 best hitters coming to the plate.

The players failed epically.

I still would have batted Bell for Straw.

You didn't enjoy the 70's and 80's?

Hard to worship the ground Tito La Russa walks on with an abundance of miscues this season already. Are we spoiled as fans? Sure, in a sense. Manny Acta/Eric Wedge are far worse options, experiences as fans, etc. 2023 indicates Tito is approaching the end. His decisions can very much be questioned. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but it's almost damn time to try a different method.
