No detailed preview for this series - I have sold my house and am moving to another state. Just don't have the time this week to dig into the numbers.
The Guardians are just a half game back of the Twins as both teams continue to tread water. It's like watching a tortoise race.
Now that Amed Rosario has been traded I'm expecting a 23-game winning streak, however.
The Noah Syndergaard era begins tonight. If he pitches like the old Thor for the next two months we won't be able to afford him in free agency. If he doesn't, we won't want him back. This reminds me of when Yasiel Puig was thrown into some deadline deal a few years back. Hopefully, Syndergaard can eat some innings with Bieber, McKenzie, and Quantrill out.
Surprisingly, the Astros are just three games over .500 at home and nine games over on the road. They are 9-6 since the break. The Guardians won 2 of 3 in Cleveland in June. Yordan Alvarez missed that series. Bieber pitched seven shutout innings for a win, but he's out this time. The other Guardian win went 14 innings. The loss was started by McKenzie. None of the three Guardians starters in that series will be pitching in this one. It will be Syndergaard, Williams, and Bibee.
I'm looking forward to seeing the rookies pitch against the Astros in their home park. The Astros are only 13th in runs per game at home at 4.47. They've had some injuries; Jose Altuve has only played in 36 games, Michael Brantley has missed the entire season, and Jose Abreu is hitting just .245/.661. They only have one player that has appeared in over 66 games with an OPS over .800 (Kyle Tucker).
One more game in July and the Guardians are 14-11 so no matter what happens tonight it was a winning month.
Looks like neither the Twins or Guardians have done anything big at the trade deadline although there are a few hours left.
