2024 Season | Series #10 | Guardians @ Astros | Apri 30 - May 2, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In re complaints about Vogt starting Cookie last night..

Who would you have replaced him with?

Don't say Curry
I have to admit, I couldn't help but laugh at this.

"Here's a question. AND DONT SAY THE MOST POPULAR ANSWER"

Isn't the obvious answer for anyone who wants to say Curry "Well yeah, obviously you don't let him make a minor league start on Sunday."?

We should act fast on this pitching situation or the losses will pile up and before you know it we are 7 back. Go acquire a MOR arm or something.

Trade Manzardo for Civale? :p
Manzardo has six HR's in his last 11 games. Sell high. Trade him for a starter. We already have a half decent first baseman.

Just kidding. After this Astros series we play the 11-19 Angels and the White Sox. We should be able to muddle through with Bibee, McKenzie, Lively, Carrasco, and Allen. In the meantime get Curry starting every five days, keep stretching Wes Parsons out, and pray that Williams and/or Cantillo is ready in a few weeks.

We will be lucky if Williams and/or Cantillo will be ready for Cleveland in a few months.

The FO knew, everybody knew, that the team was lacking in rotational depth for this year, because there was a gap between Bibee-Williams-Allen-Espino and the next wave of starting prospects. The FO also knew that there was likely to be attrition, due to previous health issues with Bieber-TMac-Espino-Cantillo.

There's no one to blame, because there was nothing that could be done. Trading Quantrill and Civale were our depth, and they aren't here anymore. The Guards can't just go out and trade for quality MLB starting pitching, and they can't sign a decent FA.

The FO did what they could, they sifted thru the garbage heap. There are no good present options.

Although it looks bleak, Bibee looks to be solid and Allen has a very good pedigree. Maybe Lively becomes Gene Bearden, whose freak season the Indians rode to the 1948 Series. Maybe the twinge in Williams elbow goes away, and the team manages to stay in contention until he rides in on a white horse to the sounds of a bugle playing 'Charge'.

Twins, Royals and Tigers all won this afternoon.

The plot thickens.

In re complaints about Vogt starting Cookie last night..

Who would you have replaced him with?

Don't say Curry, who started on Sunday. Besides, in his last two outings covering ten innings, Curry has given up ten ER on 14 hits and 5 HRs.

Don't say bullpen game, because the bullpen is already stretched beyond its reasonable limit.

In re Vogt using Gaddis in the tenth, and the idea that Vogt should have used him earlier...

Vogt was trying to give Gaddis a day off, which is why he wasn't used in regulation.

By the time we got to the tenth, Vogts options were Gaddis, Avila, and Beede.

Avila is strictly a mop up guy. No way he was anybodys choice.

With a ghost runner, Vogt needed the guy most likely to throw a clean inning. Bedee has given up a hit in each of his last eight outings.

I dont think i could agree with you more. Sure Cookie looks, well cooked, but lost our Cy Young for the year and maybe forever and our 2nd best pitcher from last year is now injured. Cookie is already our 7th starter, there just arent allot of options.

And you either use Clase to get to the 10th or use Gaddis in the 9th. If Gaddis gives up a homerun in the 9th, same outcome, so its just a damn if you do and damn if you dont situation.

I dont blame Vogt or even disagree with his decisions at all.

Lineup for game #2: Let's see if we can get back on track....

Kwan
Gimenez
Jose
J Naylor
Fry

That 1-5 is about as good as any team out there right now. top 5 1-5 atleast. I just think Fry needs to play somewhere every day even if he takes bats away from RF. I get he is much better against lefties, but Josh Naylor took 2 years against MLB pitching to get good against both arms.

A base runner to begin the game...Kwan single.

Andres hits into a force, but advances to second on a throwing error.

Jose grounds out, runner on third for Nails...

Pop out ends the threat.
