What does this market mean when it comes to Cleveland pitchers' values? Does it make someone like Plesac more likely to be dealt or the return better? The contracts being handed out is mind blowing.
Even as poorly defined as BTV has been... BTV is seeing/saying that.. In the last couple of weeks, Plesac's value has risen 40 %...

A guy who can start & go through the lineup twice has more value than a punk who breaks parts of his pitching hand violently removing his shirt or pounding his fist in the dirt..

... crazy #'s coming out of San Diego..

I'd say the extend Bieber ship has sailed. It doesn't make much sense for Shane to extend now and it certainly isn't feasible for Cleveland to pay the kind of money he'll get in FA.

We've bandied about the idea of trading for Lopez. Well, good luck with that now. That MFer is gonna be expensive!
The only/best time for the Guardians to acquire the next Bieber is while they're in the minor leagues.. Because of their projected uncertainty, get more than one "next Bieber".. Texas has a couple of potential "nexts".. and they're not Leiter or Rocker...

I am pissed at Red Sox ownership for letting X go. Shouldn't have low balled him last year when he wanted a new contract. But holy shit, 11 years?? For a guy whose 30?? Insane. So help me if the Sox don't extend Devers now, I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to John Henry.

I really like Winn, but what would Texas want for him?

winn and porter.. 22 MM in excess value for pitchers.. The Rangers also have three catchers... the second, Huff, would be fine addition & add another 11 MM in excess value

So, what do the Rangers want with their account credited with $ 33 MM not including 1,2,3,5 & 7:

# 1 need is back of the pen closer not named Clase (from the G's POV). Other pen arms that offer the ability to put the ball over the plate in crucial situations are the best kind of arms the Rangers can hope for!!1

# 2 need is more "ready now" starting pitching. By acquiring both DeGrom and Heaney while adding to Gray, Martin and Odorizzi, the rotation is now pretty solid.. but can always be better. The Rangers should be and will be looking for a "tweener".. like Plesac.. He can come out of the pen and can give some spot starts.. The need is in transition as Kumar Rocker, Jack Leiter Jr. Porter Winn, Vanasco and White are all on the way.

#3 need is a corner OF'er just like Kwan or OGonz..

The Rangers don't need:
1. MIF'ers like Rocchio: they'd be up against Semien & Seagar.. so would all the MIF'ers..
2. Corner IF'ers like Arias/Noel: certainly

So, in addition to two or three of the "on the way" SP's prospects.. the Rangers have one of three catchers to deal..

Any suggestions?...

So I'm a diehard Red Sox fan. Been a fan for 23 or 24 years now. I know I can't bitch because I've seen 4 WS titles in my life, but if they let Xander walk I'll be pretty pissed. Dudes been with the org for like 15 years and deserves to be a Sox lifer and he's still pretty fuckin good.
It seems like ownership now has a mentality of a small market team instead of one of the richest ownership groups in all of sports. If they let Xander walk, especially after trading away Mookie, to me, that all but confirms that they won't give Devers what he deserves either. Idk. Like I said, I know I can't complain, but it's still frustrating. I know most of you are Guardians fans so you don't care what a Sox fan has to say but I just needed to vent a little lol.
Just saw this, they are pulling the same shit with Liverpool as well. No clue what’s up with them.

Last Year's Top 5
Mets - $295 ($30 mill tax))
Dodg - $274 ($29)
Yank - $265 ($9)
Phil - $255 ($3)
Bos - $245 ($1)
with $230 limit (per sports trac)

Updated from FG for 2023 (payroll/payroll with benefits + misc adj such as avg salaries over contract)

Mets - $322/$335 = $67 luxury tax (with Nimmo and Robertson)
Yankees - $250/$266 = $14 tax
Padres - $235/$255 = $3
Phillies - $230/$242 = $1

So last year's total luxury taxes went from $35 to $70 million. This year without further additions by Yankees, taxes are about $85 (but it's doled out to small markets over 10-14 teams).

And, in comparison to NY $250 and $322 mill payrolls, Guardians are about $87 million after arbitration with Bell addition. And, if we don't have a chance of signing the likes of Gimenez, Bieber, etc. with the escalating payroll, it puts more oweness on developing the positions with biggest contracts (P,SS) which seems to have been their modus operandi for the last few years.

It will be interesting how they juggle Rosario, Bieber and Gimenez -- as it also means Gimenez issues start after 2024. Do, they trade at 1-year or 2-years or let contracts expire (FA) to maintain a window? But that is for another board (just pointing out how Mets/Yankees are blowing away the tax limits).

A couple days ago... before the Josh Bell & Nimmo/Robertson deals... I suggested a "..cut your tax penalty in half" trade between the Mets and Guardians.. While the buy down target (Alvarez) was a poor example, there may be a lot to the concept:

Mets send James McCann, Carlos Carrasco and Kevin Parada ( could be any top 10 Mets' prospect)
Guardians send Aaron Civale or Zach Plesac plus a 40 man roster guy that has no future in the land.

Note: Full bills of health would be required before a deal is made..

The combined salaries of these two "veterans" would reduce the Mets direct payroll by $ 26 MM in 2023 and takes their $ 67 MM tax to $ 19 MM (est). The starting pitching of both clubs are not affected both now and into the future.. The Mets get a huge cost savings while the Guardians get a fan favorite and veteran SP to add to their starting rotation. Additionally, the search for a short term back up back stop to pair with Bo Naylor comes in as part of the deal. Getting the choice of any one of the Mets' top ten prospects (not named Francisco Alvarez) just strengthens the Guardians going into their window of contention..

Thoughts?

I think the Mets look at you trying to pry away a top prospect and say "What part of our behavior makes you think we're trying to save money?"

the part that understands both sides need to be improved.. you might look there...
