23 MLB Offseason News!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I guess I don’t know MLB as well as I thought I did, because I have literally never heard of this guy:

Pitched well for the Pirates got hurt, when he came back from injury was traded to the Yankees and as @CBBI said, Cleveland just faced him not too long ago haha

What's the word on Carlos Carrasco? Could he be interested in a return to Cleveland?
Mets picked up his option on November 10th. He’s penciled in as their No. 4 starter.

To add onto this... If the Mets need to cut some salary, he could be a pretty decent trade target though, so I wouldn't 100% rule out Cleveland inquiring about him once the SP market is settling down...

I saw that after my post. Crazy, he is going to spend more years of that contract he signed with the Mets then with the team he gave the discount to. I hope he has a monster season and goes and gets that DeGrom money.

He literally pitched against the Guardians in the playoffs a mere two months ago :chuckle:
I watched about 100+ Guardians games on mlb.com and all 5 games of the Yankees series and somehow still never heard this dudes name until reading the tweet.

I may be repressing that Yankees series though because I recall losing in 4 and had to look it up to see we actually had a 2-1 series lead. That’s what the heartbreak of being a Cleveland sports fan will do to you though lol

Both players are trying to recapture what they were earlier in their careers, it's just that Bellingers high was much higher than Bells. I think both are solid risks to take. Bellinger is more versatile, but I think his health is a bigger question. Can Bell reach his tantalizing potential, for even one monster season, or has his book been written? Another guy I think could have a surprising year in a shiftless MLB is Human Windmill Joey Gallo.

I don’t necessarily know if I agree with this.

While he wasn’t as great as he was four years ago, Bell was still very productive in each of the last two seasons (119 and 123 wRC+)

Bellinger was high key awful in each of the last two years (47 and 83 wRC+).

Let’s put it another way…

I’m much more confident Bell can replicate what he’s done the last two years than I am Bellinger will be able to find the magic he had now four years ago.

I'm not sure its accurate to frame Bell as trying to recapture anything. In 2019, the year of the juiced ball, he had a freak season. In the 60 game Covid season, he was miserable. The last two 'normal' seasons have been his second and third best, and fairly consistent, although with some wild monthly swings.

Overall IMO what Bell has been the last two years is what he is...unless he somehow can improve his launch angle and lower his GB rate, without losing his contact ability.

He threw the book at 'em!

Well, we know where the Guardians got the extra money yesterday to pay Bell.
(Taxes for 2018, 19, 20 and 21 were about $15, $25, $35 million, $34 million respectively ... I think last year (22) was around $70 million. Hard to figure out where this year will land as Yankees, Philllies and Mets are already over the limits (or close for Phillies) but

Last Year's Top 5
Mets - $295 ($30 mill tax))
Dodg - $274 ($29)
Yank - $265 ($9)
Phil - $255 ($3)
Bos - $245 ($1)
with $230 limit (per sports trac)

So Far this year per FG (with $233 limit)
Mets - $289
Yank - $211 (before judge's $40 million plus benefits)
Philies -- $230 (with more FA to go like Strahm at $7.5)
(Padres are $214 last year and $210 this year and making big offers)

Look like Dodgers and Bos may drop out. But, Phillies, NYY and Bos get hit with another with another 10% tax (surcharge from 20% to 30% for 2nd year). 2021 was supposedly just Dodgers and Padres. Plus, I think the Disney deal give each team around $10 million for another buy-out.

Some more moves momentum, feel like today could be a pretty active one
