Alright the 24 season has started and has started off on the right foot for the Guards so far in Oakland...

Now, since the season started, we gotta make a season thread...

Joey Bart has been DFA'D... I'm sure if we didn't have Hedges, we would be all over acquiring him... Now, I would love him at AAA for sure!

Also, am I am the only one that feels Ben Lively will end up DFA'D because of how Beede and Carrasco got their roster spots?

I don't have a feel for this team so I don't know if Lively will end up DFA'd or a staple in the rotation. We certainly aren't going to get a good read watching them play the worst team in the last couple of decades if not longer.

I have no interest in middling player additions. What in the hell would Bart provide this team?

I'm just going to sit back and watch. I don't know what they can or can't do, but I'm not expecting much if I'm being honest.

The quarter pole is usually a pretty good point in the season to take a step back for the purpose of evaluating what is and isn't working without bias.. The areas that are questionable can be further defined as the team heads to the half way point and the trading deadline..

usually how it works.. any expectations at present.. might be considered premature..

I think there is goint to be significant changes by the AS break at the latest. Hard to know exactly what they do or don't have until all these prospects have been sorted through and that doesn't happen overnight.

Why don't we finally trade for Blackburn? Lol I've been trying to get him for the last two seasons lol

Since the FO has made its bed with the decision to fly with nothing but kids, and have hoarded so many of them, the question is twofold.

1) What to do with them all?

2) How much rope do you give any of them?

We have five positions sewn up...catcher, 1B/DH, 2B, 3B, and LF.

Right now we have Freeman, Rocchio, Arias, Brennan, Florial, and Fry on the 26 man roster. Martinez, Brito, Tena, Valera, Rodriguez, and Noel are on the 40 man. So is Straw

Tena, Valera, and Noel are in their final option year. Freeman, Rocchio, and Arias will be, if they are sent down. Florial can't be sent down.

Manzardo is expected to be added soon. Delauter may be added at some point. If they are called up, they are gonna play.

Thats a total of 15 players to cover four positions, plus three utility spots. There are roughly 2400 PAs this year to divvy up between them.

Manzardo, Delauter, Brito, and Martinez have trade value. The others, without many options, have very little, unless they excel immediately.

The FO very quickly has to decide which youngsters to give away. They don't have years to do it. The FO has put its back to the wall, and every other GM knows it.

I'm not sure if any OF spot is "sewn up". I'm not suggesting any of Kwan, Freeman, Brennan or Laureano are in danger of losing the jobs, but damn if there isn't some interesting kids approaching that could provide a dynamic not currently in our OF mix. I'm not suggesting anything, only making an observation. I have no answers.

I have a slight hot take...

Morgan won't finish the season in Cleveland...

Will Dion will be a pen candidate in 25...

This isn't a bad idea in a sense.. Trading Watson for Martin Perez, would be a short term help...

Just the start of the idea... Grover absolutely loves Angel Martinez so I am thinking Angel Martinez plus like Torres, Florial and Hajjar for Blackburn and Myles Naylor?

I was just going to come in here and ask is it to early to start talking potential trade and Blackburn was the first pitcher that came into mind, the problem it’s going to cost a arm and a leg for a starting pitcher, and Myles ain’t going nowhere……..

I figured, see if we can get both!

I am just not sure how to trade with the A's since the last few major trades have had some serious question marks...

DBacks DFA'D Corbin Martin, who has starting experience... Should we grab him since he has an option left?

I honestly feel like we will be talking to teams about guys with MLB experience at AAA and/or waiver wire guys like him...

Williams will be back before too long. Same goes for Cantillo. We have Curry, Lively and Beede. They have Barria signed to a minor league deal. I don't think they'll be picking anyone like Martin up. What is it with you and grabbing every fringe player that gets designated?

I could see a trade for Blackburn though so that's worth keeping an eye on however unlikely it may be. They A's will need someone to help eat innings as part of the package.
