24 Off-Season GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So can Minnesota, Detroit and Kansas City, and this is clearly a season of "seeing what they got". I don't see keeping or trading Bieber as a determining factor for the 24 season until there are some legitimate offensive contributors and that might not happen until after the break. That or they come out of the gate out performing expectations offensively.

Mott and others believe Bieber's value will be peaked at the deadline, but I don't think they'll get much for a SP that has hopefully rebounded and only has the 2nd half of the season remaining on his deal. He's likely not worth much on the market at this time due to his injuries and the appearance of declining skills. I think they're between a rock and a hard place with Bieber.
Dont really care what the record is or if they are in the running for division first place. If this team is bottom 5 in offense again around June/July then you sell Bieber. Cause its not a contender under that condition.

Laureano, Hedges, Bieber etc are all gone if we aren't in contention...

Believe it or not I understand keeping Hedges around to mentor Bo and help handle the pitching staff, but in a season where the performance of the young players is the determinng factor I would have already dealt Bieber and Laureano if there were a good offer. I'm not suggesting I'm right or wrong, but doesn't it seem as if they are hanging in some sort of purgatory? It just doesn't seem like they have a clear direction and that they are holding out for the incredibly unlikely. Just fuckin' make the determination that the 24 season is either a stepping stone for the next window of contention or to go all in. The "in between" bullshit is what aggravates me. Either there is no reason for guys like Bieber and Laureano to be on the roster or that they made no legitimate additions this offseason as the prospects pile up on one another. Admittedly, I don't mind a lot of risk if the payoff is large and not everyone is in congruence with that idea.

They want to compete and make the playoffs hence why we have Bieber, Laureano, Hedges, Barlow etc... I feel like they tried to make more moves, but nothing came up that made any sense...

You know damn well that this is not a playoff team Coach without an act of God. I feel like they lost all their leverage when they held onto Bieber too long. Laureano isn't worth much having only 1 yr of control remaining so not dealing him is no game changer. If they're not going to give Brennan the AB against LHP then he'll never learn to hit them like Josh and Andres did. How is Florial going to be used? I suspect he'll sit against LHP as well and the gamble on him will not pay off because he won't get the AB to sniff his potential.

What a burden on the pitching staff and defense. Here's to hoping they stay healthy and keep us in it until the boppers get here.

I feel like the FO is planning on them to be in the playoffs...

No, they didn't "plan on them to be in the playoffs". They hope everything goes right for us and that the Twins, Tigers and Royals don't have any luck at all. This is not the year of playoff expectations and I don't know how they can make that any clearer. I'm actually fine with that. What I'm not fine with is not getting guys like Manzardo, Rodriguez, Arias and Florial the reps they need to know for sure if they're important pieces going forward. That can still happen though so I'm in wait and see mode.

Hey, it's opening day.
We haven't lost a game yet. Let's save reality till at least Monday.

Oh shit! The Yankmees just put Cole on the 60 day IL. Time to send them Bieber for Jones.

I saw Wander Franco isn’t on the Rays roster. Is he down in the minors?

You are both right and wrong. They always try to make playoffs but as CDAV said this isn't it. They dip their toe in the water with fringe moves and if we get close, they decide another fringe move for a FA to-be hitter or go all in like with Miller of WS is realistic. This is just a small step to keep our heads above water (which is getting drowned by the waves or injuries to our pitching) but not a playoff push, please.

If we don't make the playoffs and Naylor nor McK are resigned ... add them to your list SC as potential trade candidates at deadline.

He's on their restricted list and will be until a trial is done...

If he is cleared, he likely can rejoin if he isn't, he will be suspended/his contract voided...
