I think I compared Bey to Cedi a long time ago. Still think it's a pretty decent comparison.

After gobbling up a ton of articles and videos, I think I will go light on one-dimensional players like Toppin and Okoro, and to some extent, Edwards. Also, we may already have Edwards on the roster with the name KPJ.

Ball, Avdija, and Vassell seem like the top three choices, in that order. They all have their own shortcomings, though. Also, Ball will certainly be gone by 5. Avdija has a low probability of being available at 5.

This might be a decent approach:
1. Sign TT for at least a two-year deal. TT may also get interest from other teams (LAC, GS, …?), so it's not a done deal yet.

2a. If TT doesn't come back, then draft either of Okongwu or Wiseman, whoever is available
2b. If TT comes back, draft Deni or Vassell (in that order)
2c. If Deni is unavailable, and #5 pick seems too high to spend on Vassell, Cavs might draft Hayes/Haliburton

3. I see the probability of trading the pick, and other assets, if we can land a big name (Westbrook, Simmons, …... just dreamin'). Though there might be trade options to acquire solid players (Barnes, Jrue, ….) without giving up the pick. But, in any of these cases, Drummond will be moved. Would Garland + Exum + #5 = Rubio be possible (Rubio, KPJ, Windler, Love, Drummond to start, and Sexton, Cedi, Nance, TT et al to back them up)?

I’m not sure why you see okoro as one dimensional, he is an excellent defender but also an elite finisher and solid drive/kick game and some juice as a playmaker. The only thing he isn’t good at is shooting. That’s it.

Thoughts on trading down with NY for picks #8, #27, drafting Achiuwa 8th & Azubuike 27th?

That seems like a massive overpay for Rubio.

I would take Okoro, Vassell or Okongwu at 8. Reed or Perry at 27 (assuming they take a wing at 8).
Hell I'd even trade further back then 8 and be happy with a Josh Green/Perry pairing.
Assuming Avdija is off the board then Okoro and Okongwu are my favorites at 5 but wouldn't be heartbroken if they parlay that pick into a Green/Perry combo. As much as I like Okoro's potential it might be better to take multiple stabs in this draft.

Bringing in Rubio will be an instant boost for the Cavs' offence, and will unlock the potential for the Love-Drummond-Windler front court. Rubio is a great distributor, and has played with Love before.

The Suns are not looking to trade Rubio. At least, they do not have a good reason to do that. So, our price will have to be high.

Maybe we could trade them Love, Drummond, and Windler for Rubio.

We need 4 shooters around Drummond

Altman won't. But I am sure you would :chuckle::chuckle::chuckle:

Rubio's a nice player and would be a great fit in a backcourt with Sexton. Problem is what we'd have to give up for him...

Yes, I totally agree with you. However, if we have to get better, we have to pay the right price. I hope that Garland will improve a lot this year - and become a true PG with a good apg number so that Cedi with 2 assists will not become our assists leader game after game. If we don't want to leave it on hope, we may have to get a guard that will distribute. I think Rubio or Jrue are easier to get than the big names like Westbrook or Simmons. Out of Rubio and Jrue, I prefer Jrue - but his price tag is 8 million dollars more than Rubio's.

Obviously, I have no way to see what JB or Altman sees. If Garland has really improved, he might be a great asset. But if they feel like the NCAA Garland didn't quite translate into NBA, packaging him with Exum (and some picks might be involved - may be a 2020 1st round pick swap) for Rubio may be great for the Cavs. If it's a pick swap, we may take a gamble on Nesmith with the #10 pick.

Just my $0.02. But I respect your opinion, too.

From the 77 fans voting here, it seems like Avdija, Wiseman, and Okoro are the top three choices. Avdija, and Wiseman will most probably be taken by the time we pick.

So, Okoro it is.

The next two choices are Okongwu, and Vassell.

thoughts on just drafting Okoro and then running, running as far as possible without looking back?
