A Look Inside the Dysfunction of the Cleveland Browns

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know many hate Joe Banner but he's insinuated a lot of the stuff that was written in the article. He said before Hue was fired that it was Haslam who had the final call, hence why he waited so long to fire him. Haslam overruled everyone for some reason, probably because Bill Parcells or someone told him to hire Hue.

Remember that Banner's real choice was Dan Quinn and Mike Lombardi kept bringing in guys that turned out to be duds as coaches like Greg Schiano. Haslam wanted to have an open search, Belicheck and Urban Meyer both recommended Schiano. Look at OSU's D last year, I think Banner was right....

Banner's worked with Haslam and knows what a buffoon he is. As long as Dee Haslam is around keeping him in check, we should be OK.

I have a close family friend who was a VP at Travel Centers, which is a direct competitor to Pilot Flying J. He said Haslam is a hands on guy who has questionable business ethics (which we now know). He's been offered by Haslam to go to games in the owners booth but hasn't gone because he knows what kind of guy Haslam is. Haslam is the biggest impediment to the Browns future success, we have many good things in place.

Wasn’t one of lombardis main purposes to get McDaniels or saban? I remember that being a big deal in 2012-13. He had connections to both and jimmy wanted either of them. When he couldn’t and got his 7th option that’s when he got fired.

They take it as an attack on their team from the national media.

Because it is. At least, on the part of the disgruntled former employees who wanted to take a final shot at the franchise, and so passed the author their version of events.

But a piece like this could honestly be written about 30-40% of professional sports teams.

Look...I agree with that, and that kind of stuff isn't limited just to sports teams. But that's exactly the point. Shit like the stupid porn mistake, sexual harassment training, guys saying shit about other people behind their backs...that's not rare. So why focus on the Browns? Why air just their dirty laundry, especially when -- as you point out -- there's nothing particularly remarkable about it?

That's what makes it basically tabloid journalism. A fair bit of truth, a fair bit of embellishment, but ultimately nothing except some titillation without any real importance.

My point was that it’s far more common than people think, not that it’s unremarkable. I’d argue for more pieces like this, covering the shortfalls of all such owners across sports. And it’s not just the Browns... we’ve read similar pieces on Al Davis, Jerry Jones, etc. In my opinion, the more transparency we have with owners like that the better it is for the fans.

The problem is that it's really easy to make any large organization look bad if you just look at the warts/screwups. That kind of "transparancy" actually misleads more than enlightens. Especially when some of the "transparant" screw-ups may be things taken out of context, or flat-out wrong.

I don’t think that was the case here, but I see we disagree and that’s fine. In my opinion the piece is a comprehensive look at Haslam’s time as owner, during which the Browns have been run a poorly run organization (and many Browns fans would agree). It highlights a pattern of behavior that shows over involvement and contradiction. It even ends with hope now that Dorsey is GM and Haslam finally has a HC reporting to the GM. However, it is letting Browns fans know to proceed with caution given all of the past issues that have occurred.

The Browns are finally on the right path. And this hit piece about what dysfunctional mess we've been hits out of the blue.

Someone that was once part of the organization, is looking for some payback. And has an ESPN buddy that did him a favor.

I can take a pretty easy guess where this is coming from.

I look at it a bit different.

Because we are finally heading in the right direction and things are turning around, a story of where we have been and what we went through is very interesting.

I think they made this for ratings, but honestly I agree with you here at the end of the day!

Hopefully with Haslem staying out of things and allowing Dorsey to run the franchise within reason, and a new captain on the side lines, we should see a winning team at first energy stadium and forever be a winning culture!

A interesting interview with Terrelle Pryor. Basically says his agent and people gave him bad advice on passing on the Browns' offer in 2017. His people overestimated his value and thought the Browns would use the franchise tag on him. He basically says he should have stayed and looking back now 2 years later that the Browns offer was a good offer to him.

Pryor could have signed with us last offseason too. Maybe we can get him this offseason on a 1 year no guaranteed deal and see what he does though camp and TC.

He was maybe worth the headache two off seasons ago. Not anymore. Don’t let the guy anywhere near Berea.

Who said he was a headache? I know earlier in his career he had that reputation but I don’t remember it since he turned into a WR

Lol, franchise tag for Prior? His agent really did suck.
