Andrew Bogut: Big White Stiff???????

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think you're on his payroll. ;)

Looks like a cross between Luke Jackson, Dirk Nowitzki and Darko Milicic.

I was on the Marvin side of the Bogut vs. Williams debates on my home board until the results of the Chicago pre-draft camp workouts/measurements and the Bucks own workout linked above became available. I had serious doubts about Bogut's athleticism and quickness. I was afraid that he was going to be another Zaza Pachulia or Eric Montross.

As anyone can clearly see, It's hard to call Bogut a "Big White Stiff". He does have above average athleticism for a 7-1 guy.

I actually like your assessment above....minus the Milicic dig. :chuckles: Andrew doesn't possess the big German's stroke, but I do think he'd a better passer, better handle with the ball, and able to do more out of the low post. I haven't seen enough of Luke Jackson to really assess what he brings to the table. I figure he's a pretty good shooter so yeah, I can see a little Bogut there too.

Check out this media clip. Towards the middle, you'll see a glimps of some of his passes:

Chris Mihm skillset with more handles..... Its up to him wether or not he becomes anything more. He has to learn how to rebound by positioning instead of relying on his size like he did in college. I like how he can finish with either hand.

Yea, it was tongue in cheek....I still believe Darko can develop if given the opportunity. The reference to Luke was by appearance.

He has very nice form on his outside shot. That will improve throughout his career - he could turn into your "Z" from the outside. I will hold my comments on his low post game until I see him in action - it seems to me he could possess the Yao type of low post game....the turn-around jumpers and bunny hooks. He'll get banged pretty hard this season - I'd like to see how durable he is as well.

I really do like that stroke though.

Bogut is quite strong, especially for a rookie. He has quite a bit of international experience on the senior level, so has banged with the big boys. His concern will be how much attention will his teammates draw. He is probably not ready to be a 2nd or 3rd option consistently out of the gate.

Hey LePip, HPD, CDT, A-Mac, lyxo....

Come out from under your rocks and break down this video. To quote the legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy....."Don't act like your not impressed". :D

I'm not impressed I don't think Bogut will amount to anything more then Chris Mihm sorry just not feelin it.

I just watched it... I can honestly say, I did that at the gym this morning..

I ran up and down the court (I didn't have cones in my way  ) but I didn't get winded, worked up a great sweat, and I knocked down several jumpers..

I want to see him do that with an average player in front of him (erick dampier, Jerome James)

Chris Paul or Marvin Williams (what could have been).... You'll regret it within 3 years...

Other then that.... GO JIRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:chuckles: :chuckles: :chuckles:

You guys keep me laughing. I love this place. :chuckles:

I've got another quote from the movie "Life"....."Don't be scairrrred"!

I really dont care about other teams in the NBA, ive never knocked him, other than maybe said he probably wont put up good stats his first year. It takes big men time.

I dont bother to watch work outs ,i could goto the park and give you a highlight real that makes me look like a lottery prospect...

So, I dont know..based on need, it looks like a good pick. With Redd and the guy they signed from LA, but I wasnt a fan of marvin either.

Well, now you guys know why I feel the way I feel about Bogut and the Bucks. There is no way that this kid is going to be a bust. Left/right hand finishing ability, left/right hand ball handling, inside/outside offense, athleticism (graded better than Okafer's Chicago pre-draft camp numbers), collegiate/international winner, along with the proper drive and attitude to get even better, he'll be an impact player from day one. If, like Howard, he needs time to adjust, last year's starter would be ready to go.

If Bogut's first year numbers land somewhere between Emeka Okafer and Dwight Howard, I'll be extremely pleased. He'll most likely go a step further by adding the passing dimension to the Bucks' post offense. The Chris Mihm comparisons are unfounded, imo. Mihm (not a #1 overall) did not come into the league with Bogut's credentials or accomplishments and clearly doesn't possess Bogut's skill set. I'm inclined to agree with the professional scouts that say that he'll be at least as good as Brad Miller and Vlade Divac. I think he'll be better than those two because he's more athletic and fundamentally skilled (except for Miller's exceptional ft%).

I wouldn't compare him to Z as a post presence because while being 7-1, he's not 7-3 260lbs. Z has a better anchor and more length....allowing him to easily collect his misses for putbacks underneath against most of the league's sub-7 foot centers. Z is also an equal, if not better, perimeter shooter. One advantage that Bogut will have in the matchup is speed up and down the court. He'll also provide more resistance under the basket at 7-1 than the Great Gadzuric at 6-11.

Overall, I think we're looking at the eventual Rookie of the Year. Chris Paul is a decent bet as well but I don't think his point abilities will be accentuated with the talent that he has around him in Oklahoma City (yeah let's just say Oklahoma City...N.O. won't be able to sustain professional sports for years). Paul will be more like an early version of Stephon Marbury in that offense.

You cant say any player wont be a bust.

He hasnt played a game yet, running up down the court doesnt prove anything yet.

Interesting point. Let's define bust as a player that does not play up to expectations. A failure is worse than a bust. A failure is a guy that can't play in this league....Harold Minor for example. Maybe Dujaun Wagner.

Now let's create a standard for quantifying "bust potential" based on what we've learned from past players, skill sets, work ethics, and attitudes. I'll call it the "bust percentage", or likelyhood that a player will not play to expectations. I don't think that any player drafted by a professional NBA scouting department has a bust percentage higher than 50%. I think that would be the worst possible gamble.....former highschoolers or Euro stiffs.

For Perspective l'll assign a bust percentage to some former draft picks that we know (high school picks and second round picks will naturally have a higher % as well as players who are generally considered a reach where they were drafted):

Shaquille Oneal: 2%
Tim Duncan: 3%
Allen Iverson: 7%
Kevin Garnett: 8%
Lebron James: 6%
Kobe Bryant: 9%
Dwayne Wade: 9%
Michael Redd: 15%
Larry Hughes: 13%
Dejuan Wagner: 30%
Charlie Villanueva: 22%
TJ Ford: 14%
Luke Jackson: 19%
Martynas Andriskivicious: 33%
Ersan Ilyasova: 28%
Chris Taft: 27%
Andrew Bogut: 12%

Legend:

0-15% for 1st round picks = Green (good)
16-25% for 1st rd picks = Yellow (risky)
26+% for 1st rd picks = Red (bust likely)

0-20% for 2nd round picks = Green
21-30% for 2nd rd picks = Yellow
31+% for 2nd rd picks = Red

He does remind you of chris mihm. mihm's going to be in the nba a long time, and collect several pay checks along the way. But, he'll never be anything more than a fringe starter at this level.
