Anthony Schwartz - Former Brown

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wonder if trust isn't already strained beyond breaking point between QB and receiver. The more you look at the film the worse Shwartz's role in that pick gets.

Add the bobble on a walk-in bomb plus the incomplete route down the sideline in the two-minute drill in week one and it begins to look like a terrible opening two weeks for him. There's no point having game-breaking speed if the opposing D knows the QB is never going there, so even his decoy value is already looking compromised. I hope I'm very wrong and the kid can learn and adapt to the physicality of the pros quickly. I'm sure Stefanski, van Pelt and Mayfield know that they have a real weapon there if they can get him involved in a way which builds his confidence back. Fingers crossed.
If he were a second year player and quitting on routes was still happening, yeah that’d be bad. But he’s a rookie in his third game of action. I doubt the trust is strained in any other way than a normal rookie / vet relationship is strained at this stage.

I was trying to come up with a Wizard of Oz comparison from the Browns roster, but I couldn't think of a player without a brain this year. Usually at least one of the receivers would qualify.
Last year, that was Redwine. Dude has physical talent, but is out of the NFL now because he lacks a brain.

Andrew Sendejo is the tin man, not because he lacks heart--he's just rusty and slow out there.

I feel pretty confident that the leadership style our organization uses is going to help Schwartz by not giving up on him and working with him on what he did wrong and try to build him up. That seems to be the MO of Berry, Stefanski, and Baker.

I hope Schwartz is the type to be self aware and open to the help. Not everyone is. But if he is, I think he'll be fine.

I have no desire to go back and find the video, or actual quote, but I distinctly remember Schwartz talking like someone that wants to be coached up/given advice/etc. Were they just words? We shall see, but he said the right thing this summer, at least.

I'm going to go ahead and say what nobody has wanted to say about the interception... Baker had some fault there.

Schwartz cannot give up on a route. Same time... Hunt is uncovered on the flat and Baker threw into the middle of two defenders.

Can’t say I agree. If he completed his route we would be raving about the perfect ball placement and how he threaded the needle between 2 defenders. Shitty move by Schwartz to puss out on the play when he heard footsteps. Hell, with his speed he could have made a cut upfield after the reception and possibly split those to defenders and would have been off to the races. The safety came up and there was nobody deeper than the LB who I would take Schwartz in a foot race any day.

Nah, get the video.

If Schwartz keeps running his route, that's not an interception.

However, Baker threw a hospital ball. He had other options on the play, and trying to fit it in between five guys to Schwartz meant he had to be perfect--and he wasn't. He could've thrown it closer to where Schwartz ended up. Where he threw it, he was leaving his young rookie out to dry.

Schwartz absolutely has to keep going and break up that interception. Full stop. He fucked up. However, Baker wasn't perfect here either. It's an area our offense can get better.

The fact that we can be this nitpicky with such a young offense is awesome. We're playing like a coach, QB and organization that have been together for a decade rather than still figuring it all out on the fly.

Can we not overreact to a rookie wide out making a few mistakes. Give it time.

I’m getting texts from reliable West Coast front office sources that Schwartz is partnering with a high former Browns draft pick on a new rap album and may have been thinking about one of his new beats during that play. Could easily explain it.

Take it FWIW.

Crazy in the sense that with all this talent on this team I’m craving to see more Schwartz and Felton get put in position to make plays out in space….

So much potential to be difference makers…

You need one good play from each of Schwartz and Demetric to wreck an opponent. The consistent heavy lifting will be Chunt, the tight ends, and Baker offensively..

But if he can get his head out of his ass, Schwartz speed > plaid.. So he can get 6 point in any 5 seconds...

Demetric in space will be a nightmare for any secondary.. getting him space may be harder than the other runners or recievers... But if you can design that play and catch the defense in the wrong set, he will make defenders look silly..

Neither of these guys is an every down threat, but both are going to keep some DC up all night..

Can't wait for the #hype video promoting the album!

The ball also looked high. Schwartz should have nutted up and gone after it, but he could have been knocked out of the game if he did. Mayfield hung him out to dry there.

Word around the starting gate is the song’s gonna be called, “Heeeeeeeere comes Rusty.”
