Now that we have waived the option on Robert traylor we are left quite thin up front. We will assume the Cavalier's will either resign Ilgauskas or make a move to grab a starting center. But that is only the start of it. We then have to find an adequate backup center, and also a 5th big man who could ideally fill both front court positions.

There are many options out there. Some names like Vitaly Potapenko, Francisco Elson and dan Gadzuric have been mentioned on this board. Other alternatives through a trade may be a player like Chris Wilcox.

Any ideas, thoughts.......

If we can steal Wilcox that would be my first choice (a trade for Sasha and Harris' contract could work as the Clips will lose Simmons and love saving Cash)

I then would say an offer should be made to Kwame Brown. I know he has a history but his talent is worth the risk in my eyes

We don't need to worry about front court bench depth. There will be quite a few bench big men who will be getting veteran min. big men money this free agency. Bench big men grow on trees, it is not that important, if it was we wouldn't have so foolishly cut tractor.

Right now as it stands however we have anderson, drew, and well lebron who can play pf, and no centers, we're in trouble if the season starts tomorrow, however it doesn't.

gadzuric really interest me, him and AV on the court at the sametime would bring alot of energy and rebounding...

plus gadzuric blocks shots.....

The Cavs were already thin upfront and now there's no depth. They need to add a backup C and another player who can play both PF and C. This is projecting that Z is resigned too.

I can't see Gaduric coming here. The only way is if it's a reasonable contract and the Bucks do draft Bogut and name him their starter.

I've forgotten who the FA big men are this year. I'll have to take a look and see who might fit and is realistic.

Vitaly ıs the man. Can play both posıtıons and wıll come cheap. Good shooter, good man to man defender, and always a team player fırst and foremost.

I don't think this piece of the offseason is anything to worry about. There should be plenty of options out there for the money we're trying to pay. E-light has it down that we have the whole summer to work this issue out.

I'd take a look at Elson. He seems like he can provide the defensive toughness that Tractor gave, if he throws on a few pounds (I think he's 7'0 240). I know someone on this board said he's abysmal, but I think a change of scenery and playing next to LeBron would help his game a lot.

There isn't a ton of great talent available in free agency as far as backup big men. There's some average vets like Ervin Johnson, Elden Campbell, Dale Davis, Andrew DeClercq,Cliff Robinson, Mikki Moore and Vitaly Potapenko.
Dan Gadzuric and Zaza Pachulia are 2 younger C's who you might have to overpay to get.
The veterans like Davis, Robinson and Campbell might prefer to go to a team with a chance to go far in the playoffs. The others could be realistic options.

I wonder if we can swing a trade for Darko :)

Not if Detroit keeps playing like they are. All of the pistons were on fire last night!

Diop would be so out of place that it would not be funny.

I want to pick up an enforcer type big. Somone that'll bully players around and is willing to get into fights for his teammates. Traylor sorta filled that role last season. I dont know of any FA's out on the market that would be considered enforcers though.

Since I am hoping we resign Z (which will probably take a good chunk of change) and the fact that we are trying to sign one of the big free agent shooting guards, a good place to look for a cheap backup center is outside the NBA (NBDL,CBA). It seems that most players that are on the verge of making it into the league are hard working and willing to accept any role given to them. Mikki Moore would be an example, as would Chris Andersen. Players like Earnest Brown, Ken Johnson, and Lonnie Jones might be a good idea to workout in summer league just to throw a few names out. I would just hate to overspend on a backup center when we have other priorities this offseason. If we could find a cheap good, not great, defensive center that could just hold down the fort while Z is on the bench, I think we'll be in good shape.

I would like the same thing. There isn't many guys out there avaliable that would bring that tough attitude like Tractor did. There is still a slim chance that he may come back though.
