Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's very ironic that "everyone" on social media collectively, relentlessly trashed Baker last season. Then after the Browns traded for Watson, those same clowns are left looking like the Pikachu face meme pushing this narrative that they can't believe the Browns would do this to a guy who led them to their first playoff win since whenever the fuck and the Browns would rue the day that they moved on from Baker Mayfield.

If the Browns had traded him right at the end of the season, then Baker might not have been as "depressed". But once Watson came on board, everyone knew the Browns had to trade him.

Panthers owner David Tepper ... was determined not to overpay for a player he viewed as a depressed asset.
Where did it all go wrong? When the #1 overall pick was a disappointment and demonstrated a ceiling as an average NFL quarterback if everything around him was perfect. A lack of ability to operate off-script and a sense of athleticism that didn't actually exist. It wasn't Baker's fault that he was chosen #1 overall. Never should have happened to begin with.

I don't think there's any "fault" here. Browns jumped on Watson. As soon as that happened, their expensive and average QB became even more difficult to trade because they lost all leverage. Not too many teams looking for that sort of asset and QB is looking great league wide at the moment.

Yea Baker should feel real good about going to a team that didnt even want to pay him.

Baker Mayfield drinking game for Game #1:

One Sip for:
  • Unnecessary pump fake when receiver is open
  • Happy feet stutter-step before releasing pass
  • Overthrows open receiver for no clear reason
  • Leaves pocket too early
Three Sips for:
  • Interception
  • Sack
  • Scowls at Browns bench after completing pass
Chug If He:
  • Refuses to shake hands with Stefanski
  • Grabs crotch
  • Gets benched
Take the highest punishment, don't add them up. For example, if Baker leaves the pocket too early, over throws his receiver, and gets an interception, it's just three drinks for the interception, not 5 drinks. Not trying to kill anyone here.

i didn’t really want to suffer alcohol poisoning on the first game of the season…

It's a very normal and super healthy situation-- Poking fun at people to bring the best out of them.

Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer said quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold will battle for the starting job... “It's an open competition. … It’s a very healthy situation,” Fitterer said in a Tuesday news conference.
...
Mayfield didn't mince his words when describing his reaction to everything that occurred this offseason ... “Shocked is really the only way to describe it, but you have to roll with the punches,” Mayfield said Tuesday.
"There's always a preconceived notion about anybody, maybe with myself a little more so than others," Mayfield told Panthers.com. "But I just look forward to getting in the building and letting guys know how much I truly love football and how much fun I have doing it and the process. So some of that just comes with time; some of it comes with having lunch and talking to guys, not during practice.

"Every situation is different, and I've always tried to be a guy who gravitates toward others and elevates their game and who they are, and just try to poke fun at people and bring the best out of them. That's just how I've always been. It just takes being around the building for that to happen."

Every organized team sport or activity I’ve done, from soccer to baseball to intramural kickball to competitive gaming, has had guys joking and talking shit to each other. I don’t think what Baker said means anything.
