Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Honestly don’t even know where this dude goes from here.

You overestimate Bakers position. Greatly.

He'll be lucky to get an offer to be a bad teams starter the rest of the year. Let alone a good team like the 9ers.

I wasn't saying offers for him to start. He has to clear waivers and I think if he has a chance to compete for the job in SF, that he should make it clear to other teams not to make a waiver claim for him. Going to a bad team and trying to compete in the last 5 weeks isn't going to help his career. If I was advising him, take the odds for a team like the 49ers that their 3rd string QB is going to mess up and they will try to go with someone else. They are 8-4, they don't have time to f around to just give a 3 stringer experience.

49ers don't really have good options right now. They have Josh Johnson who they picked up off Denver's practice squad recently. He doesn't have much of a head start if Baker came in after waivers. Purdy is probably going to be on a short leash because of experience. Baker could go in there learn their system and probably have a good chance at playing meaningful games.

If I were the Colts I'd do nearly anything to not have to see Matt Ryan take another snap.

But this.... I don't know.

That tie with the Texans week one really screwed the Colts for draft position. Would they recruit BM as tank commander?

There are teams ahead of SF in the waiver wire who also need a QB. Even BAL depending on how long Lamar is out.

Am I rooting for BAL to sign Baker now? Yes I am. I want it even though it's not gonna happen.
Huntley is better than Mayfield. They would never sign him. They faced him twice a year and realized how horrible he is.

He’s done. College GameDay seems like a good fit. He’s too much of a lightning rod to be an NFL backup. Plus his fanbase would be clamoring for him to start. It’s over.

I dont think he is done yet, they give QB's so many chances to succeed. He might be done for the year, but he still has a couple more years in the league, but it is the begining of the end, i think we found out who Baker was, and not a starting QB in the NFL.

Personally I hated the pick, then I came around, then i realized he probably wasnt the answer, but i didnt think he was this bad.

We will always have this:

I don’t agree. He currently has the worst QBR in the league. He’s in the same level of quality as Jimmy Clausen, Andrew Walter and Josh Rosen. Johnny Manziel didn’t even post numbers as bad as him this season. There is a reason why these guys don’t play or are on practice squads. They just don’t have it.

Mayfield has raw ability that is needed to succeed, but the physical tools he lacks are pretty evident at this point. He could have been successful if he worked hard. That second season where he came in overweight showed us everything we needed to know. He wasn’t willing to work hard. If he would have, he could have panned out. Instead, he acted like he knew everything, like he was already elite even though he didn’t accomplish anything. Instead of staying humble he ran his mouth, angered teammates, wouldn’t study the game over summers, and talked smack about players that were drafted by other teams. He’s an immature child and a complete bust. Thinking back on what else we could have had from that draft is disappointing.

What other QB consistently gets that much space to take full wind-ups like that from an immaculate pocket?

Even on this "highlight" drive he fumbles the ball away :chuckle:

The Ringer said this in their QB rankings article and it always made me chuckle in how correct it really is.

"Baker can sling it. That is not up for debate, but his Arm Talent grade takes a hit because he’s a max-effort thrower who has to put his whole-ass body into a pass to generate power. So when he has to really drive it—typically on in-breaking routes in the intermediate areas of the field—you see some inconsistent accuracy."

All he can throw is in-breaking routes. If he can't see the guy open, he never throws it.

It's in-breaking routes, open guys down the seams, or that comeback to the boundary when he rolls out.

The police say they've identified the man who left the tire marks on the field last week but hadn't issued a warrant yet...

My guess is he goes to court. Likely a fine and probation. House arrest. Emily gets sick of him and they get divorced.
