Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@az
What adjustments would u make?
One thing they aren’t doing that o think they should is move the pocket.
They did that a lot more last year. It protects the tackles and simplifies reads for Baker.

And what happened to the RPOs this week?

Browns got out-classed and it seems Baker bought into his own hype and forgot he has to actually show up and play to win. He must have thought he arrived in his first season. Hopefully year 2 is just a humbling year after the hype of a great rookie season.

I’ll try and put together some coherent thoughts at some point.

Right now I’m too blinded with pure, unfiltered rage to make sense of this.

Mostly I think teams are playing up and daring Mayfield to take shots down the field. Baiting him to take chances and when teams are able to generate 4-man pressure, they can force some bad throws and disrupt him. Can see Baker’s eyes not staying downfield and he’s too often drifting in clean pockets, when he has them.

Totally agree!

I thought Baker was really good at stepping up in the pocket last year, and even scrambling for positive yardage when the defense gave it to him.

None of that this year.
He did a great job of it last week but other than that I agree

Probably not a coincidence that last week was by far his best game

He was better last week, but still, Baker throwing way too much off of his back foot. It looks like a high school QB.

Amazes me his accuracy isn't even there anymore. He's just really off, and late with his throws. If I didn't know better, he just doesn't practice or doesn't study film. I don't know what it is, but he's literally regressing almost in every way. And that's bizarre. I mean some shit, I get, he's still young and doesn't really understand certain situations well enough.

But even things he's known for, and good at, he's actually pretty lousy this season. Like, what the fuck is going on with this guy?

Obviously the battered line isn't helping, but please, for the love of God. Don't just give him that excuse. He's playing really, really bad football.

it’s inexplicable. Time for avatar change.

Why?

Hit him in the chest and he still walks in.

Not a great throw, but man...impossible to put an INT on Baker there.

Probably one of the few good throws he had tonight. That really pissed me off. Baker was terrible tonight, obviously, but how the fuck can you call yourself a receiver and muffle that one. I've had it with Callaway.

He just is not good. I wish people would stop raving over his speed. Who cares, when he's so bad at so many other things.

Took a second look, definitely don’t see a reason why this ball needs to be low and outside.

The fact this turned into an INT is...sigh.

This offense just has absolutely no sync at times, and it’s crazy frustrating.

This changed the entire game, going to 14-10 and instead it was 21-3 a minute later.

Why are people saying it was outside? It was on frame.....it was just low.

Was it a perfect throw? No. Should it be caught 10 out of 10 times? Yes.

Quarter Pounder and Cheese is not reigning him in either. Feels like this is the price we pay when we hire a buddy coach for Baker, than a guy that might actually bring out the best in him. And be the teacher of the game he really needs.

Because how is a guy of his talent regressing? That to me is bizarre. This is why I don't like hiring a guy that design some good plays to be our head coach. You need more than that.

I actually think Freddie is solid play designer, but as a head coach, he's been a flat out bust thus far.

Probably your least favorite Buckeye for a few reasons...
