Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The poster DOTL is on a short break for turning posts analyzing a player into attempts at an internet fight. Most were deleted. I suggest everyone else follows suit and let it drop. He can't respond. If not, I will be equitable in giving time outs.

They probably knock off the Patriots and end up dropping games to the Dolphins/Bengals. The Browns are the most hot/cold team in the NFL. Were gonna beat Rams and Seahawks but came up short and yet lose to the fucking Titans.

They execute their plays and have good fundamentals some of the time then revert back to Hue era penalties and mind-numbingly bad execution.

There's still time and plenty of talent for them to get their shit together

Speaking of PFF, Baker jumped up to #12 in their QB rankings after this week ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wilson is #1 btw

Last year Myles Garrett was getting shit on by PFF through three games, then made a similar huge correction. I think PFF goes back with senior scouts to rewatch past games and make corrections on what junior scouts graded.

I do think you hit on a gigantic factor in the past two Browns games: The quality of the Browns opponents needs to be a factor. The Niners and Seahawks were criminally underrated by pundits going into this season, and it's taken a while for the cream of the NFC to rise above their incorrect expectations. Wilson and that Seattle team are legit, Niners look incredible.

Could the Browns have made a few changes and won yesterday? Absolutely. Never abandon the run when you are up three scores at home. However, credit to Russell.

I actually thought Baker played pretty well outside of the endzone interception.

Agreed. Maybe the passes weren't as crisp/accurate as we saw last year, but I think this was easily his 2nd best game of this season. Which isn't saying a whole lot.

This is the thing that has startled me most this year about Mayfield. His accuracy was lights out last year and in college. This year he's off. He's missing his targets and putting the ball in less than desirable locations. Now his receivers, OBJ specifically, are NOT helping him in spots. Balls that are off target or behind a bit but hit them in the hands, that's on the receiver. You can nit pick the QB but if it hits the WR in the hands, at the NFL level, it's gotta be caught.

Honestly, this little detail to pocket mechanics and inconsistencies in his accuracy caused by poor timing was a large part of the reason I projected him as I did from a prospect standpoint.

Limited in his ceiling, but can certainly be a productive passer if paired with a coach who can emphasize timing and footwork with the RPO stuff.

Big reason I liked John DeFlippo as much as I did, the job he’s done with another limited prospect in Minshew has been pretty good too IMO.

Jesus Christ this is the absolute tipping point for me throwing you on ignore

I don’t agree with Baker being considered a limited prospect

and I disagree with him having a limited ceiling

he’s still a 24 year old second year QB. I get that he was the #1 overall pick so expectations are sky high, but what limitations does he really have? @AZ_ I’ve never seen you bring up his height as a serious limitation so if you don’t consider that then I’d be surprised if you don’t agree that he has no physical limitations

which is huge because that’s pretty much the only unreachable things

his struggles this year have been frustrating, but they’ve all been things he can improve upon. I get it’s as cliche as a saying gets but “he has all the tools”. And he still is young and has a ton of potential. Even if this year he has been rough.

but I will also point out again that the company that grades every play of every game ranked him the 12th best qb this year! Now I have watched a loT of NFL this season but I haven’t even watched a full game of every QB this year so I can’t really comment on how I think he ranks against the field other than I think he ranks worse than 2018 baker Mayfield. But honestly, what limitations did 2018 baker Mayfield show? Because he looked like an elite franchise qb
