Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To pick a GM/HC combo who don't have a clear cut plan on how they will make the current talent on the roster succeed would be an abject failure of the selection process. There seems to be a consensus opinion that the talent is there on the roster, it just needs to be coached and utilized properly. To start giving up on pieces like Mayfield at this stage of the game would be a mind boggling and stupendously stupid choice to make.

So what you're saying is that it would be the Browns thing to do.

“We’ll be using analytics, Bake. We’ll be hitting that RPO. This offseason, just stay tf away from those hot sausages and beer. Speaking of which...it’s awfully cold out here. I’ll see you in the tent.”

The implications of that scene, after a week of eating beans, and right after dinner, are not pleasant.

I am pretty sure that is what drove Randy Quaid insane.

Too funny. I watched it shortly after it came out and thought it was a really good movie. This did not occur to me. Guarantee some of you guys are into that. :chuckle:

Fyi interesting little conversation on Joe Thomas' podcast Sunday about Baker. Joe mentions how even the best quarterbacks, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, all go work with quarterback coaches every offseason (e.g. Tom House) but Baker always dismisses that when someone brings it up to him, thinks no one can teach him anything. Blind faith and love from the fan base might give too much entitlement. Any signs he's humbled enough that he is going to change his mindset this offseason and listen to others? If not some serious public pressure probably wouldn't hurt. Does seem to be the undertone from everyone (org, press) about the need for a tough coach. Hopefully it's obviously towards Baker.

Wow. Just read the article regarding his comments. I think this dude is starting to rub me the wrong way. Why in the fuck wouldn’t you work with a QB coach in the off season? No wonder the dude regressed he think he know it all. Please get someone in here quickly.

Well, Baker will obviously be spending much less time shooting commercials this off season. Hopefully he changes his tune about working with a qb coach this off season once the new staff is in place.

Didn't he work out with a QB coach prior to the Draft?

I recall him working with someone in that documentary he put together.

I know we haven’t seen the progress this year that we hoped, but this is a good reminder of the sad shit we’ve been dealing with for the past 20 years.

Our passing was a better ranking, 19th, than last year's 21st, even though DVOA dropped slightly from 7.8% to 1.9% due largely to mean vs. median differences - league-best Baltimore was 47.4% this year and the Jets were worst at -21.9%, while last year KC was 62.9% and ARI was -46.9%.

Our defense dropped from 12th to 22nd, though! And yes, Greggggggggg improved the Jets in basically the exact reverse direction! Our special team improved from 30th to 15th, though.
