Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just to clarify:

No one on this board gets rep, money, a new username color, or even some modicum of respect for grave-digging a post that shows they were right about something.

Likewise, no one on this board gets fined, banned, or a scarlet letter under their username for having a previous opinion that was later proven inaccurate.

So enough of the grave-digging to prop some people up or tear some people down. We all want the same thing here: a good Browns team.

Cherry-picking these old posts does nothing but lead to contentious conversations that lead to personal attacks that lead to vacations. I suggest some posters just get over themselves.

It's a message board. For every time one of us is right about something, there are handfuls of examples of us being wrong about something. Move on.

Honestly, Baker's passing is so much different this year than it was during his first two seasons. Maybe I am just an idiot - very possible - or terrible at predicting/evaluating QBs, which is even more possible. But I really could not have imagined this transformation.

Based off my completely uneducated guess, I think this might have more to do with general playcalling than it does "these are the areas of the field we want to target because Baker is better at throwing to them than other parts of the field."

For example, if you run to the right side of the offense, the obvious counter to that is to play action pass to the left.

Without a modicum of evidence to support this theory, I believe that is what we're seeing on the above heat map for the Browns.

Absolutely, but that playcalling impacts Baker. What we saw previously is Freddie and Haley forcing the ball. I guess my bigger point is that the general change in playcalling impacted Baker in a fairly unpredictable manner. I knew that the scheme would make him look better, I did not realize to what degree, though.

"I just don't see the progress" and "we can't use COVID shortened season as an excuse. Well that is clearly fucking complete bullshit, because the COVID shortened season and new system clearly, CLEARLY, played and INSANELY massive role in Baker not feeling comfortable early in the season. A lot of people, including me pointed that out relentlessly and Bob brushed it off as bullshit.

What's interesting to me is that you didn't post in this thread one time from September 18 to October 25. Which just so happened to be the worst stretch of Mayfield's season.

You didn't resurface until the second Bengals game. Weird.

During that time I felt like the lone Baker backer, lol.

To be honest I never said he would be a franchise QB for sure, I just said give him time, I see things in him where he could turn it around, said just needed more time with his 3rd/4th coaching staff in 3 years.

Maybe we can all just be happy that he appears to be, in fact, a good QB instead of having a dick measuring contest for no reason.

Those that have had Baker's back since day 1, good for you.

Those that were skeptical of his development and voiced that here (AKA a place for opinions), good for you. You used a forum correctly.

What am I missing here?

But.. .but.... what about my internet points and dunking on people??? :chuckle: :chuckle:

I just want everyone to know I was a Josh Rosen guy. I looked past the punchable face and saw brilliance.

We all make mistakes.

Lol that's how I felt. I was going to WAR for Baker even after good performances, because the focus would be on just one or two bad passes in a game.

Now everyone's like "he's our franchise, zomg" and I'm like... lmao hold up. That wasn't the case just 6 weeks ago. The "eat crow" thing is supposed to be lighthearted and I won't grave-dig. Triplethreat is going too hard but I do know that the people who were ready to move on from Baker and are now passing it off as "Nah I was just criticizing. Nothing more." are being disingenuous as hell about it and it says a lot, IMO.

No matter, I'm ready to move on. :)
