Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Very proud of Baker. I know people are super down on our points scored, but really it should have been 7 more and both teams had long loooong drives that gutted the clock

He’s the guy. And he’s a guy that can every bit go on a hot streak and win you games himself. And we will need that at some point.

He faced adversity this year. There were browns fans unironically calling for Keenum to “see what we have”. And honestly baker started the year poorly. And he fought back and played like one of the NFL’s bests

0 complaints on Baker. Well, 1. Work on your fucking sneaks my man ;)
Nah, that was just "criticism". :chuckle:

But yeah, I agree with you. I think he has grown as a player and the future is bright with this kid. Let's opt-in, give him another year, and extend him if he is anything like the player we've seen the 2nd half of the year.

You know what was really cool? When a strong defensive stand neutralized Bake’s INT today... that’s what great teams do, and that’s a benefit afforded to quarterbacks of great teams. So often it felt like we needed Baker to be perfect to win this year because our defense is so porous... that was a moment that gave me a glimpse of what the future could hold for this team. And when Baker and the offense can pin it back without that added pressure and with an actual off-season? Lookout.

good game from Baker today - more of what we’ve come to expect from him over the course of the season which is wildly refreshing after a tough loss.

Baker is the guy moving forward. He may have some things to work on still, but going a different direction at QB would be inexcusable. He is going to be our starting QB for the next 10 years, and I am excited to see how much he improves after a full off-season with Stefanski.

Extend him now. As a team we’re gonna be better off doing it now than next year, when Baker takes an even bigger leap and will be worth much more.

I am incredibly impressed at how he steps up in big moments. Nothing shakes his confidence, and that’s something that a lot of other QBs don’t have when things don’t go their way.

I agree with this, even facing uncertainty. If Baker is closer to 2019, then you’re overpaying, but can still build a strong roster around him. If you wait, and he repeats the second-half of the season over a full one, then his next contract makes it very difficult to keep a core together.

Do you think Baker agrees, though? Maybe more guarenteed versus performance?

Baker doesn’t really have the incentive of waiting til after year 4.

I'm getting funky with the contract extension. Get off your hands ferry!!:fight (9):

Yeah, he may not agree, in which case you pick up the option and play through year 4. You definitely don’t pay him what you would next year, this year, just because he doesn’t want to negotiate.

I thought Baker played way better than his stats today. There were five drops and four throwaways by my count. His adjusted accuracy was 28/34 (82.4%)

Picking up his 5th year option is obviously a no brainer. Browns will do that as soon as they're able to.

From there I assume the Browns will absolutely be interested in negotiating a long-term contract extension, but I can't help but wonder if Baker is willing to bet on himself and wait another year.

If he were to have a better year in 2021 than he did this year, he could legitimately make 50-60M more over the life of his next contract.

Baker is the type to bet on himself

The only way we get him early is if we pay him like the best QB in the NFL a year earlier imo

He’s not a risk averse dude and honestly nor should he be
