Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Still hard to believe Watson couldn’t win more than 4 games.
Even with all the talk about how bad his team is, you'd think he would win a bit more, right?

Fact of the matter is sacks are usually drive-killers. NFL teams average 10'ish possessions (correct me if I'm wrong) per game. Watson getting sacked 49 times in 2020 in 16 games mean he's, on average, eliminating 3 possessions each game. He had 7 games where he got sacked 4+ times.

That's HUGE. Not all sacks are his fault but he does tend to hold on to the ball for quite awhile. 2020 was not an anomaly either - he has a career 9.1% sack rate. Kind of hard for a team to do well with those kind of sack numbers. In their 4 wins, Watson was sacked a total of 5 times.

My opinion of Mahomes has always been that he's a really good QB that's played a few seasons. This talk about KC being the team to beat for a decade or Mahomes going to the Super Bowl every year reminds me so much of Aaron Rodgers.

I remember people saying that Aaron Rodgers would be back to the Super Bowl multiple times. Same with Brew Brees. Neither guy has been there more than once.

Well Mahomes is 25 and has been in back-to-back years. Would be 3 for 3 if Dee Ford hadn't lined up offsides. Things will certainly become more difficult for them once that extension kicks in.

Comparatively, Brees was 31 and Rodgers 27 when they won they made and won their Super Bowls

There's a lot of QB's who were a play away from The Super Bowl. Favre lost to the eventual Champion Giants on a FG. Aaron Rodgers was an onside kick away from Brady vs Rodgers in The Super Bowl. Russell Wilson should've been to at least 3 by now.

I remember vividly when people just assumed that Brees, Rodgers, and Wilson would just walk to multiple Super Bowls. It's hard to get there.

And to be completely honest I don't really feel like The Chiefs are even as good as some of those other QB's teams. Drew Brees has had some good Saints teams that I think are better than these Chiefs. Russell Wilson has definitely had better Seahawks teams and Rodgers has had better Packers teams. I don't know where most people have these Chiefs teams ranked on the All Time list but I don't have them very high.

In recent memory

2021 Bucs
2017 Patriots
2014 Seahawks
2014 Broncos
2013 Ravens
2013 49ers
2011 Packers

I think all of those teams are better than these Chiefs. Even those teams that lost. That 2013 49ers team is one of the greatest teams of All Time and they lost. That team was stacked. So is that 2014 Broncos team and they got whopped by an All Time Seahawks team.

Sure, we can do this with every 1 score game. But a game-sealing INT was taken away simply because a guy didn't line up correctly. And it's not like his "advantage" helped lead to that INT. 1 mental mistake is the difference in Mahomes being 3 for 3 in Super Bowl appearances

Russ hasn't even made the NFC Championship game since 2014 so not sure how he should've been to at least 3 by now.

Im buying the hell out of Baker Rookie cards right now. The sky is the limit.
I know I make the Football Musk fans mad here.

but I don't think I've been as bullish on a not-so-obvious talent (like say, Mahomes) the way I am Baker.
I was cautiously optimistic about Wentz and Browns fans used to give me the business about that pick.
But it's probably for the best that the Browns got neither Wentz nor Goff.

I know Baker is playing behind a top-tier OL with very good skill players (esp. RB)

but that rookie season wasn't a fluke. he was looking good with Hue "The Lost" Jackson.
Glad to see it validated this season. He's the guy.

Just some season highlights to hold you all over. Feels good to see.

THAT'S MY QB!

So much arm talent, he's just getting started! Top 5 QB
No BS, he looks like Aaron Rodgers in some of those highlights. Also noting that for many games, Baker didn't get much from the defense and they still pulled it out.... 180 from the season before last.
