Mayfield's postgame sideline interview was excellent I thought. Even-handed, mature, fair. Set exactly the right tone. Contrast with the entitled whining of Rudolph who seemed to accept no personal responsibility for his own part in the brawl at the end and used it as an excuse to gloss over his own terrible, terrible night.
Mayfield wasn't perfect by any means but he produced enough big plays against a defense which was supposedly elite. The mantra of No Turnovers, No Formation Penalties is getting through and he deserves credit for his part in turning that around.
We're sometimes too hard on the team as a fanbase. Notwithstanding the Donnybrook at the end this was a statement win. The narrative has always been that to compete in the AFC North you often have to win ugly and that's what happened. The Steelers now know when they face the Browns in a fortnight's time that Cleveland won't back down from the physical nature of the game. That's surely a good thing.
For all the knocks against Kitchens he now has wins against Harbaugh and Tomlin. He out-coached Tomlin last night I thought. From the first minutes I could see the Steelers going into damage-limitation mode. Something they signally failed to carry out.
Over on the the game thread people were slamming the conservative nature of much of the play-calling but given that Baker was often hurried and Chubb failed to produce a signature gamebreaking run the end justified the means.
Onwards.
