Would you mortgage your future for Simmons?

Simmons and Mobley would be an insane defensive combo but the non shooting + drama involved with Simmons is not worth it plus would have to give up a lot

Okoro is the only player I would give up for Simmons
Nope, not with the way he’s been playing lately. I said it in the offseason and it remains- the absolute farthest I’d go would be Sexton & Love for Simmons. I might be talked into parting with a 2nd round pick as well.

That isn't being said for Cavaliers fans. We get to enjoy good basketball.

Woj said that situation to calm the Philadelphia area down. They know the situation has been managed terribly. They as a fanbase - as large as it is - contributed to the bad situation. Philly is proud of their "fuck that guy" attitude, but it's counter productive.
Fuck that guy.

I can’t recall an article in the Philly media blaming the team for this. That’s not because the media is subservient to the team - far from it - but the fans and media have seen this guy from Day 1 and know his failures are due to his give zero fucks attitude. He doesn’t work on improving his game, he doesn’t accept any responsibility for his actions or inactions, his demeanor and body language are infuriatingly nonchalant and he killed the head coach that defended him 100%. In short, he’s the poster child for the type of pro athlete Philly fans rightfully despise with the passion of the oil refinery fire in SW Philly.

The claim that the fans have contributed to this problem is risible. I’ve seen fans in Philly treat players harshly but the fact is that the fans were remarkably restrained for years because everyone recognized his talent and gave him multiple passes for his poor attitude and refusal to improve his game. He wasn’t a player fans booed. He was a controversial player because there were fans who pointed to his passing and defense and all star status while others feared his lack of shooting and attitude would be a problem.

Ben had poor playoff series prior to last season and had been forced to the bench in the 4th because he couldn’t play through hack-a-Ben.

Everything came to a head in the Atlanta series of course, where his refusal to shoot in fourth quarters was obvious to everyone. Joel and Doc made comments that they later regretted, but the idea that those comments are the reason this has broken down completely are IMNSHO people Klutching at a feeble and inadequate explanation for a player who might have some brains but who has utterly no heart or courage.

He would be the worst possible fit for our team and, frankly, not a player I would want on my team under any circumstances. He’s not a winner when the pressure is on. He can play well when things are easy but is useless against adversity.

I‘d rather have five Dylan Windlers than one Ben Simmons because the Dylan contracts would be cheaper and over after next season, Dylan wouldn’t give you false hope he’s an all star caliber player, and Dylan would shoot better than 33% from the line in a playoff series (not that he would get to the line much). Dylan would finish an open layup.

Ben is just a disaster.

Fuck that guy.

But other than all this stuff, you like him, right?

Simmons would be the first recognizable name since 2018. It would put them on a map again. Sign me up.
We are very much on the map. And it’s all positive. Look on Reddit or any other social media. We’re this season’s darlings in many respects.

Simmons brings a circus. He’s mentally weak and a liability on offense too.

I used to wonder why fans would cheer for Mel Turpin when he came into games late and wouldn’t cheer for Brad Daugherty.

I don’t wonder anymore.

If the cost was far less than you expected--for example Sexton or Okoro, plus matching salary pieces and picks--would you do it? If the team becomes legit, future #1 picks become of limited value.

The problem even with this is the salaries to make it work would have to be key rotation players.

Who cares about that? The current crew is gonna put themselves on the map if they keep playing the way they have been. I’d be more concerned with Simmons screwing up the excellent chemistry we have here.

Simmons doesn't fit on the Cavs.

1) He's a moody primadonna and Cavs players are the complete opposite of that.
2) He wants to be the PG and Cavs already have Garland
3) He's a good defender ? OK. But Cavs are already a top defensive team with plenty good defenders.
4) He's a complete non-shooter and Cavs need to become better in shooting department, not worse.
5) He's on max deal and will cause salary/tax problems going forward with Cavs needing to re-sign their young good players, and given his shortcoming he's not worth the trouble
6) Morey still expects a king's ransom for him.

7) He expects to get paid for not playing
8) Cynically claiming mental health issues because he just doesn’t want to face the music
9) Worst FT shooting in a playoff series in NBA history
10) Refused to shoot in 4th quarter of playoff series including a slam dunk
11) Doesn’t put time in the gym to improve his game
12) Joyless player with awful body language
13) Klutch client
14) Refuses to cooperate with his team - fights simple items like allowing team doctors to examine him which is required by CBA
15) Refused to play for Australia because he was going to work on his game, then spotted at Wimbledon with PDA during a match
16) Dilettante, not a serious professional athlete
17) Fuck this guy

I'm curious - for those who want to trade for him, who does he send to the bench in our starting lineup?

That is even a waste of resources. One of them and a second. Even then I’d be reluctant.
