Bobby Simmons

Signing Simmons would definatly save us some money. I haven't really seen the kid play, but if he can give us close to 20ppg then he will do the trick.

Is Bobby Simmons a guy you can leave alone as the 1st scoring option while Z and Bron sits? That is one thing that can seperate him from Redd. Redd could be depended on as 1st option, I don't know if I can say the same thing about Bobby.

the point in gettin redd/simmons is to have atleast 2 offensive options on the floor at the same time!

Lebron/Simmons/Z
Z/lebron
Z/Simmons
Lebron/Simmons

Simmons isn't a 1st option but he is dangerous and he gets better every yr!

He has potential to be on all defensive teams in the future if not starting next yr!

so bascially he has a ron artest type of game ? without the "I AM GONNA KILL YOU" anger that ron has..

now i know he is no artest- but the combination of defense + the ability to score 15-20 a night- paints that picture for me...

He's like a poor mans ron artest i guess...all i know is that his defense is what we need. And he can play SG as well he did with the clips at times.

another reason why i don't think his stats will totally drop off is because this guy plays with heart! He has improved alot on his shooting alot...

Is there a highlight reel vid on Simmons that we can view? I would like to see him in some action. I never really seen him play.

well i wonder then, if we can't get redd- but we get simmons, do we then go after SARUNAS for his scoring/perimeter shooting ability ? or should we go for daniels and have 2 pretty good defenders on the perimeter ?

Simmons is more the type of guy who moves off the ball well and scores off getting himself open off the ball rather then create his own space by breaking his man down. He's not someone you give the ball to with 5 seconds on the clock to create something from nothing. He is quite long so he can provide some mismatches. I would not compare him to Artest as Ron is more a physical and on the ball type player.

The thing Ive been saying about Simmons since day 1 one is that going after him would make us a deeper team because we would save some money and that would allow us to spread our money out a little bit more.

At this point, he inst an unrealistic option. Redd is no sure thing and Allen is already gone.

We maybe able to re-sign Z, get the PG from Lith, get Simmons, sign Rahim, and trade Gooden for a bruiser and a possible draft pick and still have a MLE to play with, possibly.

I always wanted a big name next to Lebron, but this isnt an unrealistic otion.

Didnt see your post..

I would go after Sarunas...we have Eric Snow who is still a good defensive PG, and why spend money on something we already have? Get the best of both worlds, which allows us to mix it up and that way we have two guys who can groom Gilchrist (or Lucas if he out plays him).

AD is a nice player, but Snow has Finals exp, he knows how to play next to stars, he isnt a turnover waiting to happen (not saying AD is), but Snow is the perfect vet PG. Despite his contract..

But Id go after Suranas.

We do not have the MLE this season.

I've been saying Simmons for a while. He is a very good defender and can hit the open shots. People look at Larry Hughes and talk about his defense. I consider the steal to be more of a team defensive stat than an individual. The steal, often, occurs because of pressure elsewhere on the defensive end. Don't get me wrong, Larry Hughes is a solid defensive player with good defensive instincts, but he isn't the defender that some people make him out to be.

For the first half of last year, Simmons was among the league leaders in 3-point % as well, and I, personally, think he may have simply worn down at the end of last year with not being used to the beating that his body was taking from a full season of playing. He isn't Redd or Allen from beyond the arc, but he may fit this team and its new defensive concept better than anybody on the market.

I like Simmons but I think he's being overrated a little by some. He is a solid defensive player but more at the SF position and not at SG where he would be playing mostly with the Cavs. He'd have trouble defending the quicker SG's.
He's a solid spot up shooter with pretty good range but isn't a big time perimeter threat like a Redd, Johnson or Allen. His 3 point % was solid last season but before last year he was terrible from 3 point range. He also doesn't attempt a ton of 3's so that helps the % too.

I do like Simmons but I think he should only be a backup plan if the Cavs strike out on all of the big 4 FA SG's.

i don't think any1 has said to get him now and forget about hughes,Redd and JJ.

I disagree about him not being able to guard SG's i watched alot of clipper games and i noticed he can do that pretty well. Defense is why he stayed in this league. If he didn't have his defense he wouldn't be in the NBA for this long(and it isn't that long to begin with) He worked on other parts of his game and he's proving to be a good player not an all-star type but he is good!

Is he a catch and shoot guy? Yes and the cavs didn't have any of those! But don't underrate him in other aspects! He does alot more than that! He rebound well(6rpg last season),Pass well and can get to the hole because of his size and his decent speed. He can guard SG's as well if not better than he could SF.

This guy has alot of heart and determiniation. He will help this team out for yrs to come! He's no Redd in terms of shooting but he is a better all around player and he also can shoot the 3 ball better than hughes. Thats what we need.

I said I do like Simmons. I also wouldn't have any problem if the Cavs signed him. I agree in can guard SG's but said he'd have trouble against the quicker SG since Simmons is really more of a SF.
His 3 point % is a little deceiving too. He only took an average of 1.5 a game last season and I believe only attempted 116 for the season. He can hit an a occasional 3 but isn't a big time threat who teams always have to worry about shooting from deep.

If the Cavs miss out on the big 4 I would be happy with Simmons and he would help.

If it does come down to us being left with Simmons, it is not all bad. We can cross our fingers and hope Jackson develops into a solid contributor which will assist our outside game. We also still have Sasha on board, so while we may not have star power, we would have plenty of depth.

It is looking more and more that way. The only one of the "The Big 4" that is leaving us a crack of daylight is Larry Hughes, with his talks with the Wizards not going so well. But I don't believe Hughes will want to leave a playoff caliber team whose main problem was defense to come to another team (us) with the same problem.

I don't believe Michael Redd will want to leave Milwaukee, where he'll be paid more and he's getting so much love from the fans (and a new stud C to boot). Him leaving Milwaukee would be seen like Grant Hill leaving Detroit. All our arguments for him to come here are good, I don't think he'll do it though.

we would have plenty of depth.
Yes definitely, as long as we get a 2nd-tier shooter (hopefully Simmons not Mobley, his D is weak), resign Z, and get another defense-oriented PG or a slasher/scorer (Donyell Marshall) we will improve. I think Sasha's shot will come along enough to fill in the cracks. If Luke Jackson lights it up I"ll consider it a Christmas present.
