Brandon Too GoodWIN Two Be True

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Cavs had three practice days in between games over the weekend, Goodwin volunteered to play with the Cleveland Charge, a possibility because of his two-way contract. So he suited up with Pangos on assignment for the Charge on Friday before the Cavs traveled to play the Pistons on Sunday. Goodwin made his Charge debut, scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished seven assists in 35 minutes.
Goodwin said his time with the Charge was a chance for him to work on his game, stay in shape and build a rhythm. He saw it as another opportunity to play basketball and to keep himself ready.
“It’s huge for him because a lot of times people want to fight that,” Bickerstaff said at practice Saturday. “But for him to get the opportunity as well as Kevin Pangos, they both wanted to play, they both wanted to get the reps, they like the competition. They’re professional in their approach, and they know those reps will be good for them. I think it’s a great thing; it says a lot about them.”
“He’s just a ballplayer,” Love said. “You see it every day after shootaround, every day after practice. He’s getting the work in with (Rajon Rondo) and loves the game, chases it, and good things happen to people who do that. Goody, he likes to roll the ball out and just play.”
When Goodwin first came to Cleveland, Love said everyone made an effort to bring him up to speed. Goodwin knew what his role would be with the Cavs as a two-way guy, that sometimes he’d be called upon, as he was against the Pelicans. He has stepped up, Love said.
“It was funny, he asked me, ‘Can I change my number to double zero?’ I said, ‘Listen, let’s do it. Let’s have zero and double zero,'” Love said. “I’m happy for him. Bench was great tonight. He was the person in the whole lineup that stepped up and was big for us. Gotta give credit to him. Was awesome tonight.”

Damn, it truly is rare for a veteran with the career track record of a Kevin Love to take his ego so completely out of the team equation as he has this season. It almost seems like a gigantic weight was lifted off him somehow, and he can now be the guy he always really wanted to be. Pretty remarkable. Could make for a really interesting long interview at the end of the season, because I'd really like to hear his thoughts of how he got from where he was a year ago, to where he is now.

When KLove came here he had the reputation of a high-level all-star / offensive hub because of how central he was on his Minnesota teams. I think over the years with Lebron it became clear that he wasn't really that guy, but he could be a great complementary player once you adjusted your expectations. It took a lot of us on this board a long time to do that. There was a lot of irritation and resentment from posters (including me!) as the limitations of his game became clear. But once you accept those limitations there's a whole lot of cool stuff he does. Maybe he went through a similar process of acceptance as he aged.

I think he made a lot of sacrifices when he came here. He came here as "the man" and accepted being the third guy behind Lebron and Kyrie. He played center even when he didn't want, I could go on.

I love his attitude on the court. Goodwin is honestly a great change of pace guy to pair with Garland. Kind of like how Nash used to be backed up by the gogo energy of Barbosa.

Yeah he hit some big shots, but did shoot 4/14 for the most part they are what shots and within the offense though. Airballed that game winner though, but good job shooting early so love could rebound.

Gotta say, I was wrong on this guy. I liked him as a 3rd stringer and still do, but he has consistently outplayed Rondo. Rondo still has some value as an emergency stopper and stabilizer + the off court stuff, but Im ready to ride the Goodwin train off the bench

I didn’t know about this. This is great about Goodwin who continues to work his game and plays for the Charge during that stretch. It’s one of those things I always find that Koby looks for in a player.

He is what a 3rd pg should be. Great attitude. Apparently a good teammate that’s not going to cause problems if he doesn’t play for a few weeks. Good enough to hold his own when called upon. I can see him sticking around next year.
