BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Football terminology will always be very complicated. I remember when I was trying to make my 4th grade CYO team and asking my dad the difference between a halfback, fullback, tailback, and running back. Twenty minutes later I was questioning whether I should just join the school band instead.

I remember my rookie year for the Browns Bernie told me to go out in the flats and expect a pass.

So there i am on the West Bank and no sign of Bernie.....yeah football terminology is fucking crazy.

I always wanted to be a DE but they put me at DT instead. If only then I would have known the advanced terminology of EDGE I may have been able to live out my dream

Football is a simple game made complicated by dumb people.

I do love it though.

Does anybody else have that feeling, or confidence that Andrew Barry is more than likely to acquire one of the three pro-bowl players in Trent Williams, Clowney, or Yannick Ngakoue? Because I feel like they will, for some reason.

The dream type scenario for me would be landing Williams, and adding either Clowney on a 2-year agreement, or trading a 2nd-round pick this year along with a few other later round draft choices in a deal for Yannick Ngakoue with Jacksonville.

This opens up the Browns to go after whoever they want, instead of drafting on need. I definitely love Andrew Thomas, he seems to be the best fit for the offensive line and the left tackle position for the next decade. Protecting Baker Mayfield is the main thing Barry needs to continue to do, and having him or Williams does just that.

You have Clowney or Ngakoue added, then you can try to move up for Simmons from pick 10(barring some miracle he falls to 10), and start popping some bubbly.

Of course, I'm not expecting this to go down.. Moreso have a gut-feeling that Barry makes it happen to add at least one of those guys before the NFL draft begins.

Would be very exciting to witness Barry being super aggressive and nabbing 2 out of 3 before the draft begins. Fingers crossed, but either way I trust him and the front office to draft well.

Could you imagine the defense being elite with this offensive potential? Sheesh.

I could be totally wrong, but based on everything we know about Berry and DePodesta and their type of thinking I would be very surprised if the Browns ever traded up in the top half of first round. That’s just not something that makes a lot of sense from a value perspective. I think they will always skew towards more picks, not less, in the top 65.

The only one of those three moves that feels possible to me is Clowney since there would be no draft picks outgoing to land him and the Browns may already have made him the highest offer he’s gotten to date.

I think you're right, I was moreso in believing that if the Browns did add Williams, then signed or acquired Clowney or Yannick Ngakoue, it would just make sense to move up for Simmons. But I definitely don't expect them to do so.

I think I agree with you as well, Clowney remains the most logical player they add out of the those 3 mentioned, mainly because I just don't see them paying Williams what he wants for 4 years, and Clowney is open to a 2 year deal, and that's basically in Berry's ballpark.

Simmons could be great and all, but in the same ballpark as not wanting to drop $ on Trent when we can draft our future LT for at least 5 years at #10.

That's if one of the top 3 OT's falls to us at #10. After that, then it will get interesting.

I feel like every year we get infatuated with the 'non-obvious' pick. The team desperately needs a LT in a draft class with a projected elite tier of tackles, but we're iffy because they're not perfect. We want to pick apart their flaws, yet we're soooo sure that someone like Simmons is a guaranteed HOF 234908234x all-pro that we better take him if we can.

I don’t think anyone is saying to take Simmons if any of the top-three tackles are on the board. A few think it’s an option if only Becton, Jones, and Cleveland are available, but that’s still a substantial minority.

The conversation began when we started discussing what happens if the top-four tackles are all off the board at 10.

That also assumes that the Browns have four tackles graded as worthy of the tenth pick in the draft, which is by no means a sure thing.

I like Isaiah Simmons, but I really, really don't like the fit for the Browns. He's not really a guy you build your defense around, and the Browns already have those two players in Garrett and Ward. Simmons isn't as good as Devin White, for example.

I'd rather go WR at 10 than LB.

I still think we're far down the diminishing returns curve on WRs already.

You generally want BPA rather than need in the draft, but you can specifically rule out positions at high picks based on lack of need; you didn't see the Pats take 1st round QBs all these past years.

If the Browns dont want to resign Higgins, I can see them spending a 3rd or 4th rounder on a WR, its a really deep class.
