BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The nfl owners care the least about their players so this is no surprise at all.

Only a matter of time before the NFL responds to paint their players as greedy millionaires.

They're trying to get into this season with as few expenses as possible, citing the lack of attendance and the cost of putting on games. If enough Americans buy the concept that their product won't be at a peak interest level globally after the lengthy absence of sports, it could work.

You never know in today's day and age. They're only a few news cycles or YouTube videos away from muddying the waters enough to be effective.

we can only hope that both sides learned from the MLB depute and try to make sure they come to an agreement without a ton of public fussing

It will be interesting how the NFL makes it work. I think the one advantage that the NFL has is that there is a week off between games, so if a player rests positive, most will only miss 2-3 games. I wonder if they will look to try and push back the start of the season or look at having more built in bye/make up weeks. If you were to add another bye week or two week it helps even more with players missing time if they do catch it. I think the NFL is playing it close to their vest to see how MLB and NBA handle things, and to a degree to see what CFB does. If CFB cancels there season it opens up Saturdays for the NFL to try and cash in on for more prime tome games.

I think they are really hoping CFB delays to the spring. Its not just Saturdays but also Friday nights that they can capitalize on. They will figure out extra money from CBS and Fox to move those games or some sort of revenue sharing of the extra ad revenue for more national/wider audience games.

They could add 4 extra games that every market would see. My guess is that would offset alot of having no fans.

Moving games to Fridays and Saturdays seems nice in a vacuum, but that sounds like it would cause all sorts of scheduling complexity.

There is enough angst with a single Thursday Night Football game causing a short week for 2 teams each week; introducing multiple games on Fridays and Saturdays sounds like a disaster that players would not be aligned with doing IMO

Who exactly is that "we" Brees is talking about when he's saying what "we" need?? If he's trying to speak for the average fan, he's not one of those and shouldn't try to speak for them. And if the "we" is himself and others players, he's basically just begging publicly for a paycheck.

I'm betting Brees needs football a lot more than I do.

I'm wondering what the NFL does, or even if they thought about, penalties for intentional covid contraction. As silly as it may sound, imagine a Steeler sending a co-ed to Cleveland to get Myles and Chubb sick...considering how missing games is mandatory with covid, I wouldn't put it past anyone...

I think when it comes down to it if it's get 80-90% of their salary with Friday and Saturday games or 65% without it, I'm sure the players will be up them. I'm sure they can figure out a solution with maybe an extra bye week and players get at least 6 days between games to smooth out the schedule.

I mean, I sure as fuck want to watch football this year and I'm sure almost every NFL fan does as well. It would be a goddamn shame for the season to get cancelled because the league can't get its shit together.

And the players don't care about anyone but themselves either, so it's even.

Well they are the ones putting themselves at risk, not the owners.

Their concerns seem to be an important part of the equation, no?

Sure. Just saying that neither side really cares about the other except in terms of the business. I mean, in most cases, the owners are significantly older than the players, and if there is an outbreak, it's likely to percolate up to some front office people, and likely an owner or two as well.
