Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Lauri and Allen get brought up for trades because they are the most moveable pieces in the Cavs core group of young players. Allen is really good and I think most of the league is starting to recognize how Brooklyn royally fucked up by not trying to keep him.

A trade centered around Allen as a center piece along with Lauri or Okoro plus picks might be a really good offer to a team that gets into a desperate situation with a superstar. Something to keep in the back of your mind if the opportunity arises.
I love Allen, but he's clearly the most expendable of our young core, if he can bring back a young wing, like a Jaylen Brown. The concern I have with Allen is that perhaps he's peaked and his value may be at its highest. I also wonder about the long-term viability of Allen & Mobley playing beside one another, as Mobley matures, gets stronger, & adds weight.

How about a trade like this:

to BOS: Jarrett Allen, Collin Sexton, Ricky Rubio, & a 1st round pick
to CLE: Jaylen Brown & Robert Williams

Rubio, Sexton, Lauri and picks for LeBron after he demands a trade here

No thank you... LeBron can rot in LA for all I care... He wants whomever is running the team to do everything his way and I want nothing to do with that. I am glad he brought a title to Cleveland, but he is what 37 now with a ton of miles on his legs. I am not giving that much up for someone his age plus his heavy minutes over the years plus his want to control every aspect of the team. I don't want to touch that with a ten foot pole...

I think moving Allen is a mistake. Can Williams actually replace him at his size? I know his numbers are fine, but Williams is a bit small for C overall.

It's hard for me to merit even thinking about trading from the rotation of Allen, Mobley, Garland, Love, Okoro, Osman and Markkanen. I think anyone else can be moved, but I personally think we hurt the team moving one of them right now... This is the group i want to compliment/build around not trade from...

Allen is only 23 and having his best season. I think there are some legit questions about durability playing the most physical position in basketball on starter minutes and if he can sustain this level of play long-term, but I don't think he has peaked quite yet.

I would assume he can continue to be a borderline allstar for the next couple seasons AND add a midrange jumpshot eventually, so probably the entirety of this contract will be his peak and then the Cavs or someone else will have to reassess once that next contract comes up.

Mobley and Allen coexist so well because of how deadly they are on defense. Mobley will need to extend his range to help prevent the offense from stagnating and clogging the paint, but so far the offense seems to be moving fine and the defense really makes this duo successful.

I love Allen and wouldn't move him for anything less than an elite SG/SF, but the Cavs would definitely be trading an elite defense for what should be an elite offense and passable to good defense. I think Garland, Mobley, and someone like Brown would make us the best in the East and create nightmares for opposing defenses. An offense probably on or near the level of those legendary Kyrie, Love, and Lebron offenses from a few years ago and would probably be most similar to the Spurs championship trio of Parker, Kwahi, and Duncan.

There's a cost to taking monumental risks, especially since they could up like the 6ers and T-Wolves with Butler. Trading away young talent just to get burned in the end. Potential for a championship or multiple championships is a hard thing to gauge. I understand why people would want to keep this core intact and see how far they can go, feel this is more of a discussion of basketball philosophy and team building than a one side is wrong/other is right.

I wouldn't take him if he were a free agent and we didn't have to give up anything for him. He holds the ball too much and has the worst +/- on the Lakers this year.

Father Time is definitely catching up to him. He’s been hurt more since he’s been in LA than he had his entire 10 year plus career with the Cavs!

The Spurs just traded for another shooting guard. They have too many, maybe we could get one for cheap?

Cle gets: Keldon or Primo
SAS gets: Windler & SAS pick

Is this a joke? Spurs ain't trading Keldon for Windler and a 2nd. And they just picked Primo in the lotto they ain't dealing him for that package either.

I can't argue with that. At least we'll have a decent pick in this draft.

I mean they can always inquire of the price of players at least...
Exactly. I couldn't be happier with this trade deadline though, getting LeVert @ that price was huge.

Cleveland gets: S&T Mo Bamba 5y $75, Franz Wagner & Terrence Ross
Orlando gets: Jarrett Allen & Lauri Markkanen

Why?
Cleveland goes with the defensive minded Bamba & adds a solid young wing as well.
Orlando gets an all-star center who is still very young & a young big who can stretch the floor.

No.

Just had a nightmare that Kevin Love got traded. What a difference time makes.
