Cavs draft workouts

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After the Cavs missed on so many lottery picks, like Mihm, Diop, Wagner, Jackson, Waiters, & Bennett, hitting singles may not be such a bad thing. John Beilein doesn’t strike me as a ‘swing for the fences’ kinda guy. I think he wants a bunch of solid, smart players.
Please don't be that naïve. You don't tank all season for a role player. They cannot waste this pick on a high floor defensive player who needs an elite floor general to make him good.

It’s not being naive, it’s considering the facts, which are:

1) the Cavaliers are largely an analytics-driven organization, which will always put a premium on production.
2) they hired an older coach (66), with a reputation for turning programs around quickly. I really don’t think Beilein is looking at a 4-5 year rebuild, like some of us may have envisioned.

If the Cavs are enamored with anyone it’s likely to be Bol Bol because, in his relatively small sample size, the analytics point to a top 3 pick. His injury issues & thin frame obviously cause his stock to drop, but you can bet the Cavs are looking closely at him, as there’s a ‘unicorn’ element to him. Bol is the type of ‘swing for the fences’ pick this group would make, if they can grab another pick somewhere in the teens.

You have repeatedly made a lot of assumptions based on your own personal interpretations on things and cited them as facts.

I just think you should be careful about reading into every last little thing that you think is there.

I will shout this from the rooftops 66 is not old. The man is a year older than myself and yes I don't have the energy I did 20 years ago but I run 5k every day and now I know I'm not as smart as I thought. Age is a number as is one's IQ and the bigger the number the better sometimes, just ask the ladies.

I do not think #1 bullet point ever rules the day in the high lottery for any org when potential targets are always high and potentially elite ceiling one's over high production meh ceiling one's. When you no longer have a highly proven high ceiling option available it's reasonable to assume that high floor high production could trump elite ceiling lower floor options but I don't think at 5 that will be the case. Regarding the #2 : I don't agree given the need for initiators and finishers on this roster being just as big of a need as defense that anyone could suggest that Hunter is a better option than Sekou Doumbouya or others like Little and Goga when this team is way to far from contention to expect any one high floor 3&D player immediately vaults them to that status or even fast forwards a process that will take years to accomplish.
Hunter would be 26 before this team is a contender and overpaid if taken 5th as a likely 4th option scorer.
If what is most important to them is proven production and fills needs of initiator and scorer, Coby White is the pick not Hunter

I don't think either Hunter or Culver qualifies as needing an "elite floor general" to make them good. To be honest, I don't think an 'elite floor general" is needed to win a title period.

Why?

There aren't any other good options in this class.

Except he doesn't exactly turn programs around quickly. He does it slowly, but the right way.
