2023 Summer League Champs

Is there anyone out there that is asking why the Cavs are going to the summer league finals even though they have no touted picks on the team? Rockets team is full of 2nd year NBA players and top 20 picks. Obviously, the Cavs have some older guys like Merril adn Porter jr, but still the pedigree of Houston's team is 10x that of the cavs

Most of the teams have more top line talent on the floor than we do, but we do have some older guys and we have guys that play the right way for the most part. I think the other piece that matters is we have an oddly well-constructed team for summer league. Most teams are just kind of thrown together and you end up with a forward running the offense or some other oddity that you'd never see on a real team.

Well, normally I'd have fought my case pretty much exactly like that but a key part of the story was me already being gone for 5 plus hours golfing. So I wasn't winning that battle.

Luke Travers is gonna be a nice, sound, all around backup next season after a year of playing on the same team as Delly and working on getting stronger and faster, and working on his 3 ball.

He has a feel for the game. He makes good passes, rebounds, cuts to the basket when his defender turns his head.

actually, I agree that travers being coached by delly is a big plus for us

Yeah that was bullshit. They moved to ESPN2 with no notice on ESPN.

Downfall - maybe there's a Hitler Rant for women's doubles tennis overriding the playoff game. Or should be.

You mentioned the October guarantee date. That is what I was referring to. It's not the end of the world if it comes and goes and he's still on the roster.

I think that was a January 10th date. All non-guaranteed contracts become guaranteed on January 10th every year. It’s part of the CBA.

Not sure if it’s just guaranteed for this season or if it’s for the remaining season on his contract after this one

think Merrill is at the vet league min, so i dont think his contract counts toward the tax lines. I think he could be a good piece to be included in a trade though as it is non guranteed.

All free agent min salary signings count towards the tax line at second year minimum salary. That’s the part that the Cavs pay, the difference between second year minimum and fifth year minimum is covered by the NBA. That’s why it doesn’t count towards the tax line. They do it that way so the teams are financially encouraged to sign free agent vets with experience at minimum salary instead of signing their cousin Vinny, or something strange like that

There is nothing really to be gained by sending him or the 27 year old Merrill to the charge. Would like to see them both on the roster and give the 3 two ways to bates, nance and porter jr.

Maybe they like to play basketball? If they aren’t getting court time with the Cavs, it might make sense to send them down the street to the Wulstein center to play a few games just to keep them fresh and may be improved trade value?
