The interesting thing about Cedi is that you can tell after about 2-3 possessions what kind of game he's going to have. Though all of them have been horrible lately, he did have good games earlier this year.

But he feels like someone who makes one mistake and he just freaks out, panics and makes it way worse.

Like if a chef found out he put the wrong ingredient in the dish, and as a result put 3 more wrong ingredients in, screwed up every other dish, turned up the heat, started a fire, and burned the whole kitchen down.

He's incredibly self destructive to himself and the team and all it takes is one bad pass, one missed shot, etc. I'm not sure I've seen anything like it at the NBA level before.

I agree that he seems to play a lot better when he makes his first shot. It could be a mental toughness thing like you said. If he gets off to a good start he's confident and can play pretty well. If he misses his first shot or two you know he's going to have a bad game. He doesn't seem to be able to pull himself out of it.

In my opinion, there are two groups of people in terms of motivation: There are people who perform better when they have something to prove to others, when there is something on the line, when they care that's Lebron, Sexton etc. They can use attitude "of I'll show you" as motivation. These people can expect from themselves to be successful and fixate on being successful and this gives an extra gear to their performance.

On the other side, there are people that start to perform worse in the above situations. For these people, caring too much, wanting to prove himself too much get in their own way. For these people, there is a fine line. When they place too much expectations upon themselves, they feel pressure instead of motivation and they self-destruct. Cedi is in this group I think. This group in my opinion, performs best when they can detach themselves from the result of the performance and play just for the sake of playing and contributing. When they accept the probability that they may not be as successful and stop caring too much about themselves and their results, they may ironically become successful.

I remember in 19-20 season, Cedi was playing bad before signing the extension with Cavs. After the extension, he suddenly started playing much better. When I watch him, I think losing the starting SF spot, reduced playing times, trade talks etc. got to him. I think being downgraded from one of the young cores of the franchise to being a bench player hurt him. He is trying to prove this wrong by performing better. But as he is feeling pressure instead of motivation, he is playing worse than ever as a result.

Don't get me wrong, it is not a bad thing to be in the second group. I actually find the first group a bit too ego-centric and second approach more mature. It is just that everyone should have an honest evaluation of themselves and do what works naturally best for them. When I watch Cedi in play and interviews, I get the sense that he tries to be in the first group when his personality is suited to the second group. I think it doesn't help that his idol Lebron is the basically the icon of the first group.

he was constantly messing with his hair. Guarantee JB benched him until he got a haircut. Guy was horrible, always worried about his stupid headband and hair. Gets it cut and can suddenly play again. You would think a professional player and coaching staff could figure this out before 3 weeks of atrocious basketball but apparently not. At least JB finally benched him until he cut his stupid hair.

I've thought since Cedi was put in the second unit, that he automatically thought that since he was a starter that he should automatically be a sixth man. Basically he thought he was one of the best 5 before so he should be the best of the the second unit.

He should have been able to settle into the same role that he had before just off the bench and with alittle less minutes. Some of that is roster construction, we don't have a scorer off the bench and alot of this roster is just #8 or #9 type players in a good rotation.

Yeah, I actually think the same. He tried to be a sixth man with high usage and main scoring threat. And as this role did not fit him skillswise or personalitywise and did not play to his strengths, he failed.

I think both Cedi and the Cavs organization are to blame for this. Cedi for not being able to self-reflect on his game honestly and accurately and not recognizing what makes him a valuable player. And Cavs for not defining Cedi a certain role that plays to his strengths, but plugging him into every possible role and just see what it fits by trial and error since 2018.

I also think it is the coaching staffs job also to guide every player into roles that fit to them so they play up to their potential. This way, even if you don't have the player in your long term plans, you cant get something of a value back for trading the player. It was quite apparent that Cedi was and will never be a sixth man. If JBB and the coaching staff asked Cedi to be a sixth man or allowed Cedi to try to be a sixth man, it is also their fault.

In the last games after DNP, I actually think he is playing the right way. Not forcing much, looking for the right play, being active defensively and having a good passing on court vision.

It is just that his scoring ability is just badly malfunctioning. His confidence in shooting has completely gone and he is second-guessing himself. And he is not as confident as before when driving inside and finishing at the rim.

This shooting woes and DNP may have forced him to play the right way, so it may be good in the long term that his shooting is broken as of now. I just hope he continues to be a team first player doing the right plays on court in case his shooting comes back.

Last night he put up six shots in 10 minutes, making only one, a layup off a pass on a fast break. It looked to me like he was forcing shots. No way he should be shooting six times in 10 minutes, even with the second group.

He's made 3 of his last 26 three-point attempts. It looks like his confidence is totally shot. To make matters worse (for him), Prince is back from his injury and poured in 19 points last night while Okoro had a career high of 17. And now Love is also back, which means when Nance gets over his "mysterious illness" there will be a logjam at the 4 with Love, Nance, and Wade. I won't be surprised if they move Nance to the 3 which means we would have Nance, Okoro, Prince, Cedi and (when he recovers from his current injury), Windler at small forward.

I can't see how they justify playing Cedi at all if they have Love and Wade at the 4 with Okoro, Prince and Windler at the 3 plus Nance able to play both positions. Unless they want to make Cedi a 2.

The tank is on. Best way to do it is play bad players.

He has found his best role for the club- the bench.

Look, I haven't seen Cedi in a few, and only have fond memories of his locks bouncing as he galloped. Are you telling me those are gone?

I think we needed 367 pages to figure out that Cedi is a turd. Luckily, he is only signed through {reads notes} 2024.
