Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looks like there won't be any paper work issues at the buzzer this year

Browns standing pat, keeping those late round picks for guys who likely won't even make the team.

Disappointing when you finally have a quarterback and other pieces.. You just continue to play the wait game.

I mean, not much going to happen the rest of this year anyway. This spring after we hire our new coach is when we go all-in.

All the more reason to get rid of Collins then IMO.

He's been the most egregious loafer on the entire defense all year.

In the offseason that makes a lot of sense to me. I don't think the tram is sending the same message Haslam just sent in the coaching change press conference moving Collins for a mid to late pick this week. There's no draft pick sitting on the bench waiting for more playing time to open up like with Damarious Thomas and Courtland Sutton.

"Alright boys, you heard the GM and ownership. This is time to be accountable and get a fresh start on this season. Oh, by the way Collins is gone and we are going to get a better look at Tanner Vallejo because, you know, he totally isn't some useless scrub at the end of the bench. We can all agree Tanner Vallejo is part of the future."

Pretty frustrated we didn't make a move with the extra picks we have in next year's draft. Perhaps there was something on the table or we are playing the long game but with some of the deals that went down, we could've snagged someone who could come in and contribute.

I want Brandon Marshall. I don’t care if he’s not what he once was he can still catch the ball and block.

But this is where I don't agree.

Yes we lost our head coach and Haley. It's a step back basically because we have different guys there calling the shots. So there's a learning curve. But it's not like we are reinventing the wheel here.

You have Baker Mayfield as your franchise guy. Chubb at the running back spot.. Landry and Njoku are here as pieces we can use. We have an elite defense. I don't see why we can't add a Golden Tate for a 3rd. Thomas for a 4th. Those two could come in and help out a ton for Mayfield and the offense that NEEDS it. We are a few field goals and better offensive plays away and the refs from screwing us over to being in first place, if not a game out.

We are right there. With this insanely hard schedule.. This team should have a winning record right now.

To completely ignore the chance to improve and get better, essentially tossing in the towel on the season by not going out there and acquiring a wide receiver at the very least to help the offense that is struggling, that's just beyond me.

All to save a 3rd or 4th round pick. Over adding a guy that will definitely outplay that rookie they draft.

He plays the same role that Landry plays, but is slower and older. The Browns aren't in the playoff hunt, so being buyers at the deadline would have to be for a player at the end of his rookie contract looking at an extension with the Browns. Browns weren't going to be sellers because they just gave a "reboot not tanking" state of the union speech.

I get caught in no man's land with this. Do I think either of those 2 upgrade our offense... Sure but for what? Are we a playoff team at this point with them? My opinion is no.
I think next year with draft and free agency we knock on the door and the following year with consistency in major spots we are contenders in that season and forward.
With either of those two editions we win just enough to hurt our draft stock and still miss the playoffs.
On the flip side the fan in me wants to see us win as many games as possible... Draft be damned

First off, I'm not sure losing Hue and Haley is a step back. Like, how much worse can our offense possibly look? It's already one of the worst in the league. Sometimes you make additions by subtracting people who are awful at their jobs. Now our players will no longer have to be pawns in their little power struggle.

Second, I just don't really see what adding Tate does for this team. He's a good player, but does he really fill a need on this team when we've already got Landry and Higgins? Do we really need another sub-six foot receiver? I think I'd rather see what Higgins and Callaway can do the rest of the year so we know exactly where we stand heading into next year. And while I would have been fine with a Thomas trade, does that really move the needle? He hasn't looked particularly good this year and he's obviously not a long-term option either since he's over thirty.

The time to go all-in is this spring, not now. We're not making the playoffs this year, regardless of who we add. We dug ourselves in too deep a hole by keeping Hue this year and giving him eight weeks to prove what we all already knew, that he can't coach for shit. This is the time where we spend the rest of the season assessing the guys we do have and figuring out who deserves to be on this team next year.

Not only is that not a definite outcome, but looking solely at Dorsey’s track record it’s not smart to marginalize mid round picks like you have

He got Tyreek Hill in the 5th and Hunt in the 3rd

It’s not an unreasonable stance to want to cash in some assets now to help mayfield, but the statement quoted is simply not a definitive outcome. Hill and Hunt are both worlds better than Taint or Thomas.

Brandon Marshall got cut, so no trade needed there... that said, not sure I see the benefit of bringing him in. Guy has little to nothing left in the tank, a checkered past, and doesn’t scream “mentor” to me.
