Cleveland Browns 2020 Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The rumor floating around Myspace is the Browns stopped taking the Lions calls for this game since they now hold the trophy. Without it, the trophy case looks a bit off. High risk low reward.

The first giveaway was when the Browns took the Lions out of their top 8 NFL friends.

No GLC????

Hey, Footballoutsiders projected the "Hell Freezes Over Super Bowl" at 0.1-0.2% probability for parts of last season. :)

If their rocket scientist/unconvicted sex offender coach can get his former Pats defensive players to perform, we could see a chance.

Baker fucking knows. It's now or never. He has to show up on and off the field or it will be a long path back to QB1 wherever he goes.

It's only May, but so far, so good.

I guess it depends on your definition of "Now or Never."

If he has another year like last year, yes of course we will be looking at options. But if he's a top 12-15 QB (Ryan, Cousins, Garappolo going by espn qbr) I think we are going forward with him and calling last year an aberration. With the weapons around him, that's where I feel his floor should be.

Baker Mayfield would have to fall flat on his face this year to not be the starter next year.

If he has even an average year, he'll be the QB in 2021.

Probably, but if the opportunity presents itself.

I just don't think the Browns will actually be in a position next offseason where the opportunity could present itself to upgrade from Mayfield.

They won 6 times last year with a worse roster and (fingers crossed) a worse coaching staff than they appear to have on paper this year.

The team sure appears to be talented enough outside of the QB spot that even if Baker absolutely stinks up the joint they're still gonna win at least 6 games. Six wins puts you firmly in that 9-12 range and it seems highly unlikely one of the three best QB's in the 2021 draft would be available there.

If the Browns don't at least match last year's 6 wins, it's very likely going to be because Mayfield suffered a season ending injury early in the season in which case he probably wouldn't get replaced either.

Incidentally, we still had the 19th best passing DVOA - and QBR last year, and this was actually a *better* ranking than the previous year where we were 21st, so technically we weren't as far off as you'd think. The "season from hell" feeling was due more to defensive regression; incidentally, we essentially traded defensive DVOA positions with the Jets with Greggggg going over there.

After you account for the quality of defenses, down/distance situations with any sort of advanced statistics, etc. the "ZOMG WORST % IN TEH LEAGUE! CHEESECAKE!" argument doesn't hold up.

Strangely, they kept Tom on there.

What they didnt keep? J’Kwon’s “Gettin Tipsy” as the page song. That had always been “their” song together and once they changed from that to “London Bridge” and Lions switched to Puddle of Mudd “Blurry”...we all knew something was up.

I wish half of that wasnt partially autobiographical.

If a couple of players aren't understanding it that's one thing. But if the majority aren't picking it up coach needs to adapt, something NFL coaches are usually slow at or unwilling to do.
Maybe some spoiled young kids should just shut up and study the damn playbook. Youngest rosters in the NFL and no one can learn complex schemes? That sounds like you drafted a bunch of athletic idiots.
