I think the approach we use today will be more or less our offense after the Bye. Use the run game, burn a lot of time and pick Baker's spot. I am hoping they can add someone in the secondary but I doubt it move the needle that much.

I don’t live in Cleveland, but wasn’t the weather pretty bad up there? I’d be concerned if this happened in the Superdome, but it sounds like there was a conscious decision not to sling it today.

That’s not a good enough excuse. It’s Cleveland. We don’t have time for weather related excuses. There were plays to be made today regardless of the weather. We just didn’t make them.

We’ve seen that approach isn’t nearly as effective when Chubb is not on the field. So it’s good we’re getting him back soon.

Offense looks non-threatening without OBJ. It’s going to be extremely rad to generate success in the passing game without finding a decent upgrade at WR this season. I don’t think DPJ had a single target. Higgins had 1 target and 1 catch and it was with 4 minutes left in the game.

Landry is not a #1 and he doesn’t have the speed to get over the top of the defense. We need a WR or it’s going to get very ugly for the passing offense.
Equally true to say run offense looks non-threatening without Chubb and Teller. The absence of Beckham was a marginal factor at best today. Biggest problem was defense allowing long, long drives and being completely unable to get off the field all day. Biggest play was giving the Raiders a TD on the catch where the football hit the ground while chalking off Landry's which did the same thing. That was the difference and accounted for an eight point swing.

The offense, and potentially outcome, looks a lot different today if you have one of the leagues best running backs and RG’s playing. I like Hunt a lot, but this team’s identity isn’t the same without Chubb. I don’t think OBJ makes a big difference in a game that was won in the trenches.

Yeah, I think we’ve all somehow grossly undersold the absence of Chubb and Teller.

I totally disagree.

Schematically, Baker was given multiple open receivers for chunk plays, but drops. The scheme generates big plays.

Yeah I was going to add that too. Once Chubb and Teller get back we can go back on that kind of offense again.

Also, I am hoping to see more TE usage after the Bye. We are paying Hooper a lot so it's kinda hard not seeing him in action that much before his surgery.

Missing OBJ is bigger than missing Chubb. It’s not like teams are selling out on the run because Chubb and Teller aren’t there.

Without OBJ there’s a whole side of the field and element to out offense that just doesn’t exist. No jet sweeps. No quick passes to the boundary. No quick slants. No deep post. No go routes. Without Hunt and Teller you can run the same exact run plays that you would for Chubb. You won’t get the same results but you can run the same plays. You just can’t do that without OBJ. Who is going to run those motion sweeps? Who is going to get over the top of the defense and stretch the field to open it up more for the other receivers? We don’t have an answer for missing OBJ and we at least have an answer for missing Chubb and Teller with Hunt and Hubbard. They aren’t as good but its something. There’s no answer for missing OBJ.

Okay.

Because Chubb is just going to step right an after a month off with a knee injury and won’t miss a beat. Teller has a lingering calf injury that’s going to just magically go away?

So now our whole offense is dependent on Chubb and Teller playing like All Pro’s coming off of month long injuries?

The scheme works without either- you’re pretending that an offense is 7 on 7. It’s not. Schematically, it works.
