One thing being overlooked (for the right reasons) is that we have 13 less penalties through three games this year compared to the shit show that was last year.

Kudos to the coaching staff.

I noted it in my RBF article, but the Browns have also kept their 3 timeouts to the 2 minute warning and end of game scenarios in nearly every game and have won every challenge when they have thrown the flag.

I know Reid is more of an in the box Safety but I actually think with LB being a weak spot for us that Woods could really utilize Reid in multiple ways. Reid could really be more of a Hybrid LB/S and allow us to move some of the DB's around. Maybe we can slide Harrison to FS and play Ward/Greedy/KJ/Money Mitch out there and play Reid with Mack Wilson. Then go big with Reid/Mack/Goodsen and take KJ out.

Reid gives us a lot of different combos we can throw out there and I'm not worried about his ability to pickup on things quickly with Woods. He's a veteran dude and has shown to be a well liked guy in the lockeroom. He's not the answer to our defensive problems but I think with the options available he would probably give us the maximum production.

Current Free Agents

Eric Reid
Earl Thomas
Ha Ha Clinton Dix
Damarious Randall
Reshad Jones
Tony Jefferson

Besides Earl Thomas or Randall all of the safeties are mainly in the box guys. I don't see us adding two more Safties after already getting Harrison. I think Reid and moving one of the current guys to FS might be the best course of action for this season.

Moving a guy to safety is a bad idea, I rather move a corner to free safety like we did when we traded for Damarious. Free safety and strong safety are vastly different positions with different skills.

Or we could look into Damarious again, not sure what he has left...but when Ward and Greedy come back, maybe we can see if any of our corners have experience or can play safety.

No??? Really???? Holy crap is Stefanski one sexy man, lol.

Footballoutsiders odds are up through yesterday's games.

We are projected at 8-8, with a 0.4% chance of, um, drafting 31st and a 0.3% chance at, err, the 32nd pick.

7-9 wins seems about right, less than 1% chance to go to SB seems a bit high, lol.

I spend way too much time on this website yelling "I was right" into a screen. I'm thrilled to scream "I was wrong" today.

Malcolm Smith still has some football left in his body. I saw him in SF, and he looked awful in coverage, when he wasn't on the IR. I hated that signing.

Smith has been our best linebacker so far this season. I was totally wrong.

We really just need to get Taki and Sendejo out of the lineup.

The season is young. We have only seen the Browns play one really good team and a pair of very winnable home games. But there are some positives coming together for this banged up defense.

The Browns defense is currently sixth in rushing defense and 18th in passing defense. It's fair to say the Bengals and Washington had to abandon the run because they were down in the second half, but the Browns gave the Ravens running backs all they could handle.

The weakness for this defense is clearly defending the tight ends and running backs in the passing game, and weaknesses at safety and linebacker are to blame there.

But for all the hemming and hawing about off man zone coverage in the first quarter, the scheme is doing what Joe Woods wants. The opponent doesn't run the ball easily because the back seven all have their eyes on the ball. When the quarterback is inaccurate, the defense forces turnovers.

A healthy Mack Wilson would push BJ Goodson into TakiTaki's running situations only role. At that point, there is only one serious hole on the field, Sendejo.

I've mentioned this before, but I'd like to see if Karl Joseph can handle more free safety responsibilities, allowing Ronnie Harrison to bump into the lineup ay strong safety.

I made that comment yesterday during the game. "Isn't it nice that we aren't talking about poor coaching decisions, are we taking that for granted?"

Of course the next play was the penalty for defensive 12 men on the field.:conf (9):
