Cleveland Browns 2021 Regular Season: RIP

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would you say that the average RBF poster provides a more thorough analysis than say, the average/casual fan? How about the average big social media platform (twitter, reddit, etc...) fan?

Give yourselves a pat on the back guys, you've earned it.

And that's an even better point. If someone does an analysis on a particular player here, and then a bunch of other folks jump in with their input, and there is a good back and forth, you're talking about a lot more eyes on particular player than PFF ever gets.

My biggest concern with PFF isn't their analysis of one-on-one matchups, but rather how scheme/play calling may make a huge difference in determine who did well, and who did poorly, on a particular play. And I don't think PFF has any particular advantage over decent fans at determining that. They may even be worse at it because of so few eyes watching each play/rep.
I just started a paid scouting service where I will be recording all of the best back and forth on this board on select players and submitting to the general public.

I call it: RCFRPGA

Fields is starting vs Browns. Joe Woods is shaking.

I could honestly see him doing the same scheme as last week. I wouldn't blame him either. Forcing a rookie QB to throw early and often should give us some opportunities at turnovers.

Contain Fields and their run game, force him to make plays with his arm. Ward isn't going to play bad every game.

If we run zone concepts, no blitzes, with Ward MEG'd on ARob every down, I'll be happy as a clam.

In coverage, I'm really going to be looking at:
  • How Denzel Ward is used, and how he plays. Scheme and execution have been lacking
  • How players (specifically Darnell Mooney) are passed off from the second level to the third level. I've seen a little too much of players getting behind our safeties, like Cooks last week.
  • How our secondary keeps their eyes on the QB while playing zone defense. We're going to need to beat Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes. Better learn those concepts now.
  • What our linebackers do in coverage, specifically against Cole Kmet
After that, then I'll look at pressure and if we see a little more of the JOK or Delpit blitzes. But, to me, coverage is the primary concern right now.

If you averaged out ALL message board posters vs PFF as a whole, he’s got a damn good point.

If we rated PFF at a 7.5, I think the average fan is a 4.

And elpresador is a 9.

Been lurking since the Amari Safari days and I am still here some 15 years later because this is one of the most informed forums of any professional sports team(s) I've come across. I've learned more about NFL schemes here than I ever did as a casual fan. That's why I put up with half of you assholes (myself included).

The question now is does a rookie QB get positive game reps against our D or does our D get positive game reps against a rookie QB?

Did he almost drop that ?

I mean if he’s struggling to catch #6’s practice spicy mustard….. It’s gonna really suck trying to watch him catch that game day hot sauce…..

Yeah I think forcing the rookie to go down the field mistake-free multiple times in this game would be a sound defensive strategy. I just get wary of that being the gameplan against elite/veteran QBs.

However, if Fields is absolutely shredding our defense I don't want to see Woods wait until the last drive of the game to try and adjust either.

I'm keeping my eyes on the defensive line. They have been solid at stifling the run but seem like they are having difficulty getting to the QB. Just really inconsistent pressure and not finishing plays when they finally get in the pocket.

Mahomes maybe the exception but against Tyrod, Mills and a somewhat battered Texans o-line, they have to be better going forward.

Hopefully Woods will get more comfortable dialing up the type of blitzes you mentioned, especially if our pass rush continues to struggle.
