Look at Kyler Murray’s stats, the kid is much faster than Mayfield but has a much higher chance at a batted ball.
1 per every 48 attempts in 2021
1 per every 40 attempts in 2020

Yes you’re correct….I miss calculated. The numbers are quite similar.

But the question becomes: if Mayfield’s batted balls are a problem for a team why the heck wouldn’t struggles to establish drives in the first quarter as Watson has not a problem?

I’m all about looking into players tendencies, but to poo poo Mayfield yet brush off Watson doesn’t make sense. In 2019 Watson avg 6.84 plays per drive in the first qtr, Brandon Weeden lead the Browns in 2015 to one less play per drive in the first qrt.

The fallacy that Mayfield is too short for his oline has lasted too long.

Does Mayfield get balls batted? Sure. Why does a much taller QB like Roethlisberger have more batted balls per season?

Per pro football reference…Herbert, Allen, Ben R top 3 in 2021….Murray, Ben R, Cousins top 3 2020….Mayfield, Ryan, Murray top 3 2019.

A lot of inconsistencies to believe Mayfield’s height is a problem seeing over a oline.

You're looking at total numbers, and the Browns haven't thrown very often over the past two seasons. I'd be curious what the percentage of passes thrown from within the pocket batted down is compared across the league.

When the Browns were successful in 2020, a lot of it came from keeping Mayfield from having to stand in the pocket and make reads to begin with. I do believe his height is at least some kind of factor in his pocket issues.

Brandon Weeden? What the fuck are we even talking about here?

You know what’s insane? Look at the stats from the year you keep referring to:

The Texans average drive length was 5th in the league :falloff:

The same year they were also 5th in pts per drive.

He’s an MVP caliber QB. Baker sucked. If he was good enough Watson wouldn’t be here. That is an unquestioned fact. If we’re strictly talking about playing ability, there’s at most 4 QB’s people would take over Watson, and even that is debatable for different reasons.

To win now: Brady, Rodgers, and Mahomes.

Purely on potential: Herbert.

That's about it for me.

This is a small community talking Browns respectfully. Everyone here knows that Browns Twitter, Browns Facebook, etc is just a wall of misinformation and personal attacks.

We don't do that here.

New posters have to recognize the difference between attacking a point about the issue and a statement that attacks the person who made a point on the issue. That is a bare minimum here.

Established posters: this guy is getting off on the wrong foot, but try to remember what it's like to be the new guy. Let's please model the behavior we would like to see and keep personal attacks out of posts.

Thanks.

In an announcement Wednesday, a player designated for return from injured reserve must miss a minimum of four games.

Additional changes to the I.R. rule allow a team to designate for return up to eight players over the course of the season, and the same player can be activated two separate times, though that would count twice to the team's total of eight. Last season, a designated-for-return I.R. player only had to miss a minimum of three contests. On top of the changes for injured reserve, practice squad rosters were voted to stay at 16, and up to six veterans are still eligible to join each practice squad.

And look at the value they got for Watson

The value the Texans got for Watson pales in comparison to the value a young, top 5, MVP level QB brings to a franchise. It's not even debatable to be honest. That's not even mentioning that the Browns had what everyone felt was a Super Bowl caliber roster last season without Watson.

The big thing for me is how the players are gushing over him and how DW is all business. With Baker it was all about starting fights out the media, and people on Twitter. I respect Baker for the bridge QB that he was but man I think Watson is going to be Kosar level good for us.
