The big thing for me is how the players are gushing over him and how DW is all business. With Baker it was all about starting fights out the media, and people on Twitter. I respect Baker for the bridge QB that he was but man I think Watson is going to be Kosar level good for us.

To be fair, Watson isn't exactly in a position to be picking fights with the media when the team will barely even let them speak to him.

The value the Texans got for Watson pales in comparison to the value a young, top 5, MVP level QB brings to a franchise. It's not even debatable to be honest. That's not even mentioning that the Browns had what everyone felt was a Super Bowl caliber roster last season without Watson.
That trade will eventually go down as one of the worst trades ever....for the Cleveland Browns. No cap space...no draft capital...and all that for a modest improvement at quarterback...if the guy even plays given his legal problems. The 1989 1-15 Cowboys traded Herschel Walker for 3 number ones and some players. 2 years later, that 1-15 Cowboy team won a playoff game. 3 years later? They hoisted the Loombardi trophy. The Vkings? They never won shit.

Terry Pluto, the long time Browns beat reporter said that "he was never more angry at any local sports team making a trade than the Watson disaster". Mr. Pluto nailed it.

You have very little knowledge of previous trade packages for elite QBs and zero understanding of how the salary cap works, based on the above generalizations.

Also by comparing RB impact with QB impact, as you’re doing with the 32 year old Herschel Walker deal, you’re actually showing yourself to know very little about football in general.

You yourself I’m sure are a wonderful person, but your take in this stuff is boilerplate and broken

Modest improvement…going from bottom 5 QB play to top 5 would not be modest. But at this point we have to let the discipline and then the season play our before we evaluate the trade. But on paper the browns look like contenders

iirc thestatman said he would become a Bengals fan if the Browns acquired Watson.

The Browns acquired Watson.

So there's some context behind the ridiculousness of that post.

So no one wants to hear it but the chances of this trade being a bust for the browns are significantly higher than to work out (super bowl win). From a historical aspect it's not even close. Only 1 team has ever traded multiple first round picks for a player and won a Superbowl with that player and it was this year's Rams. Thats it. That's the list.

If winning a super bowl is the criteria for success, sure.

Who determines that though? I surely don’t see it that way.

And that was for a QB with one Pro Bowl appearance. Watson has 3 in 4 seasons. The only other modern QB’s I could see that have done it are Mahomes and Wilson. THat means no Brady, Brees, Manning, Big Ben, Rodgers, etc.

I don’t think the trade is a bust if they don’t win a Super Bowl. Obviously that’s the goal, but it’s extremely hard to win the Super Bowl even with a great roster and a great QB. So many things have to break your way for it to happen in the first place.

The fact is, had the Browns not got Watson and had to proceed with Baker, they were going to either be giving up picks next year to move up and draft a guy or they would’ve been making a similar trade for another QB. If you’re drafting a guy, you’re damn near back at square 1 and risk the possibility of guys like Myles, Ward, Chubb, etc being too old, injured, or flat out leaving by the time the QB is ready.

Also, just taking a look at our last three 1sts, if we could’ve traded those 3 picks for Aaron Rodgers three years ago everyone would forget there was even a 1st round. We traded one for OBJ and then drafted Wills and Newsome. I like both guys, but OBJ, Newsome, and Wills can’t get you anywhere near a top 5 QB, nor is their value remotely the same to a team.

What you are saying here is 100% dead nuts accurate. And if people would take their blinders off and do a little research they would agree. Again, Terry Pluto went into great detail as to why no draft capital and no fricking cap money is an absolute recipe for disaster. And disaster is exactly what this trade was.

I was at the 64 title game. I will never root for this sorry franchise again until Haslam is booted out of football.

Can one of the mods check IP addresses? I'm becoming more and more certain curiousminds is related to Emily Mayfield.
Emily and/or her family have every right to post here to defend Baker if they want, there is no need to witch hunt them out. Frankly, defending Baker is pointless, as there is no way he stays even if the NFL hands Watson a groundbreaking suspension coming up, but they are free to do so.
