Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Only people who haven’t watched Baker Mayfields film don’t like Baker Mayfield.

It has been known to happen.

Yep. If there are, say, a couple of top-tier players you know will be available at pick "x", then a drop-off in talent, you could easily see a team move into the "bracket" they think they'll get value in. I've read a lot of articles saying that there's a few blue-chip guys, then about 15 guys who are "first rounders", then a ton of guys who are bunched together who will go in the end of round 1, round 2, and even into round 3.

Can someone explain what makes Mayfield a bad prospect besides him not being prototypical height and something about him playing in the Big 12? Or is that what the argument against him is predicated on?

Trying to set myself up for Baker Mayfield...I think he is gonna be the pick.

He got tackled by a cop bro haven’t you heard??

And his offensive scheme was the only reason he was good.

The height is pretty hard to get past. Isn't he barely 6 foot? Come the fuck on.

Several people with NFL experience are on record stating that his film shows a ton of improvisation - stuff he is not going to get away with at the next level.

His accuracy is off the charts, he has a good arm, and I don't think anyone is arguing that he makes poor decisions (in college, I don't think he did).

That said, his improvisational style coupled with the fact that he just isn't that fast or athletic should worry teams. He could flounder if not set up in a system catered to his style of play.

I like Mayfield, I really do. I like him in the Haley offense quite a bit. But he will never be the guy who threatens a defense through the middle of the field. He has made that throw a couple of times in college and I dont think, with his arm, it will translate.

I do think he has to be in the conversation. He is accurate and really is a team leader. He may be overly emotional and immature. Johnny didnt make it because he was a coke head and didnt want to work. I dont get that feeling with Baker. Dude was a walk on at two colleges and ended up starting his first year at both places. He is obviously smart and works hard.

Just not sure I take him at 1. I would still take Darnold or Rosen at 1.

Short hand:

His mechanics are sub par, too wide in his stance and will never be a guy who is refined in the way he throws. He’s better off-platform.

His offense is predicated on timing and misdirection, two things which never really lend itself well to production when trying to translate to the next level.

Drops his eyes under pressure, has a long way to go in terms of how he handles it.

All in all, he’s an enormous risk who rarely faced much real pressure in his offense at Oklahoma. Would struggle to see a ceiling of more than a Jeff Garcia type of player.
