But yes, this was a problem for Darnold as well.

1) he will need to offensive system tailored to him. The tradionall nfl offense of even 5 years ago will do him absolutely no good. I think He will struggle if the browns dont put in a system for him. Naturally I have 0 faith in hue jackson to do such a thing. Hue will try and force mayfield into something and its going to suck. You dont buy a ferrari as a daily driver and you dont buy a honda civic to race around a track. Why would you draft Mayfield to run a typical nfl offense?

You mentioned Hue twice in that paragraph even though there is a new offensive coordinator. Perhaps Haley isn't that guy either, but he at least shouldn't be judged yet as being no better than Hue.

2) the city of cleveland isnt a patient place, and after the manziel disaster there is going to be a significant portion of the fan base that doesnt even want to give mayfield a chance. If its because they think he is too small, from the big 12, an asshole, just pick a reason. He just does not fit the mold of what most fans view as a succesful quarterback should be. If mayfield struggles at all he goes to the wolves and thats going to be the end

That's why the Browns got Tyrod Taylor -- so no matter who they draft, the guy gets to learn for a year before stepping on the field. And in terms of fans, choosing which quarterback to take based on fan reaction is probably a terrible idea. The truth is that there were enough negatives on all these guys that if fans are going to pounce on failure, each of the potential draftees could have given them cause to turn any setback into a catastrophe.

First interception or fumble: "Darnold was a turnover maching on college, and there's no reason to think he'd be any different in the pros. Typical Browns pick!"

First time he is sacked: "They knew Rosen was immobile when they drafted him, and he looks like a statue back there. Typical Browns pick!"

First time he throws for less than 50% completions: "Allen couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in college, and he still can't. Typical Browns pick!"

If the pick is Mayfield, it's because they think he's going to be the best QB. The rest is all ancillary b.s.

His footwork both in and out of the pocket is...not great, Bob. But, I agree with most of the other stuff. I'm not totally sold on his arm and his ability to fit it into tight windows.
