Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Very very very slim chances of them bringing in anyone externally between now and Opening Day, by trade or FA. They have an options crunch coming which could change some 40 man makeup but that's about it.

All internal now.

This + your previous comments that they feel the heat and know there isn't enough buzz + Jose's reps coming in make me hopeful for something getting done. It's the only move that would salvage the offseason IMO.

I will caution everyone here to not get their hopes up all that much.

So we just missed on some trades and FA's.
Let me ask this,,,
What the hell kind of organization goes into an unpopular re-brand like this?
How the hell can you negotiate a new lease and take money to redo Progressive Field and show appreciation like this?
How can we waste one of the final years of perhaps the finest modern manager in MLB.
The G's have a unique opportunity to win local fans due to the Browns deciding to float their boat with a sleeze bag QB.

They have to make a move to show people the are at least trying.
At this point, even a Swisher move would help.

I’m not just saying this to pile on. But a lot of my family and close friends attended a ton of Cleveland/Guardians games in the past. Like members who go to 10 games a year.

Not a single one of them is planning on going to any games this year or bought tickets. And it’s not because of the name change. In fact, for more than a few, that was the only thing they even liked about the off-season.

Morale and interest is as low as I’ve seen.

Well, I'd be interested in hearing more about their motives.

You're not pilling on if it's true.

Like I said, worst drawn gates in Goodyear I have ever seen. Is that some lockout blowback? Probably. But when the opposing teams are drawing more fans to your own spring training facility that is not normal.

In Jose Ramirez's first 1200 ABs he had 19 HRs... So it's possible. Keep fighting the good fight, @sportscoach

There have been photos(I believe authentic) of a contingent of Guardians scouts at several Blue Jays games. If this is indeed true, is that just normal due diligence, or should we assume it is tied to specific scenarios that are obvious enough to not mention by name?

Thanks for the depressing, if not fair, outlook going forward.

Normal due diligence.

Not to mention Cleveland, Toronto, and Minnesota scouts tend to spend a good bit of time with one of the other teams throughout the season, just the way the Hart/Shapiro tree has always worked and how those groups still brainstorm and share ideas. Soon you'll see them at a weird amount of Cubs/Cubs affiliate games too.

So Bryan Shaw is the lone “big” off-season roster move?

Neither.

Past attempts at extension #2 and their rate of success.

Past attempts with Jose on #2 or past attempts in general with a 2nd extension for players? Not sure how much discussion there's been with him previously.
