I don't disagree. He has more passing ability than he gets credit for, but I think that is because he only chooses to pass if he gets stopped. If he was looking for the pass more often, he would be capable of racking up assists. I do think Beilein will help him greatly in this regard as simple reads are part of the system, and the pass is often the call in a read and react system.
I also don't think it is crazy for him to have worked so hard on his drive game this past year. He was turning the ball over like crazy initially, and driving into 3 guys, going so hard to the rim he lost the ball etc. His finishing got way better as did his ability to break down a double team and when to drive vs pull up from 3. I don't think concentrating on one or 2 areas is crazy. If he can get to the rim at will like he did the last part of the season that is perfect for him to start working on his passing. He's got the shoot and drive part down, I think his assist game will come largely as a drive and kick guy so the fact he has a functional drive game and his jumper helps that was just his first level to unlock.
Tell us more about the system.
