Guys, no politics discussions or I’ll lock this thread and start one in the Politics subforum. Actually, probably should do that anyways...

I thought about that when I made the thread, but it's a health issue, not a political one. I thought more people would see it here.

I’m leaving it open to discuss the health-related aspects. Talking about Pence, immigration, etc. will cause me to lock it.

I updated the table in the first post, I was a week and a half behind because of travel. Deaths are declining in china, rising outside of china. Still really small numbers relative to the population and the deaths from the flu.

Yeah it is the death rate that is the problem. No one really knows what it is yet, but if it is 2.5%-3% like some are saying that is 100x more deadly than the flu.

Very few young babies and children have died, but a lot of older people have.

I think it's time to close the borders outside of essential trips and freight

I understand that we need to monitor it and keep it from getting out of control, but I don't understand the stock market crashing because of coronavirus at this point.

COVID-19: Approximately 2,770 deaths reported worldwide; 0 deaths in the U.S., as of Feb. 26, 2020.

Flu: 291,000 to 646,000 deaths worldwide; 12,000 to 61,000 deaths in the U.S. per year.

The quarantines and lack of Chinese production have more to do with the stock market than deaths

Iirc it's about 40-50% of all production facilities in China were/have been shut down since the middle of January.

In regard to the deaths it has to do with the worst case projections if containment breaks which is a world wide infection rate of 60% and 2% fatality rate. When that is extrapolated to the world population it would be roughly 4.25 billion infected with aprox 90 million deaths if the worst case scenario were to come to pass. Iirc those numbers would put it on par with the Spanish Flu. (I don't think comparing this to the annual flu is a good idea)

When Italy started a quarantine and it failed late Sunday / early Monday that introduced even more uncertainty into the western markets after the prolonged production shutdown in China due to the worst case scenario mentioned above.

Best case scenario is Spring breaks and stops it until next flu season and some scientist or drug company is able to make a vaccine. Worst case scenario.... well.. I've already stocked up on N95 masks.

I can only imagine that North Korea has some very high numbers with very little capacity for treatment.

Straw that bro
Coronavirus is almost as overrated as Draymond Green. It's a weaker flu is all it is. Just more contagious.

It's not weaker it is a lot more deadly.
