SkreemanDawg: Poor guy... but how else was he going to die?

Almost the same identical response...I was like whoa....is there something you'd like to share with us pip?

Steve Irwin is definatly irreplacable. He was the face of Animal Planet for our generation.

I personally love watching Animal Planet, and this is a big suprise. Had no idea it would happen so soon.

These guys go out there with no protective gear or anything. Chassing poisonous snakes with no gloves, just shorts and a short sleeve shirt.

Hopefully Jeff Corwin isn't next, he's another great personality on Animal Planet. Also chasing around poisonous animals without wearing anything to protect themselves.

Mabey it's time for Animal Planet to take better precautions with the people who do their shows.

RIP man. What a shame for this to happen to such a nice guy.

Im reminded of an episode of Conan O Brian, when Steve Irwin was a guest. Conan played the role of a crocodile, with a puppet crocodile tail, and Steve wrestled "croc-Conan" into submission. They were chasing each other all over the set. It was great.

When a man of such passion dies, esp in the heat of the field he is studying, it is quite a blow.

Like others, I now feel sad... :(

I just hope that sting ray rots in HELLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you aren't serious with this comment. If there is one thing that the Croc Hunter would want, it would be for everyone to understand that there are certain risks in dealing with wild animals, and that the deadliest/most cruel animal that ever is the one you see in the mirror... The stingray felt threatened, and reacted the only way it knows how to defend itself.

A true shame though. A legend in my eyes.

Very said day for everyone. Australia loses a unique man, and the world loses an amazing human being. His "ocre Australiana" ways made me cringe when he become so big overseas, but at the end of the day, we were all proud to have him as our own. Hopefully his legacy will continue, albeit never with the same style.

R.I.P Steve.

At least he died doing what he loved. He seriously seemed to love every minute of being out in the wild. It's sad because he had this energy that NOONE else could ever duplicate. He seemed like a very kind hearted person, which is rare these days, My prayers are with his family and friends.

Steve Irwin was swimming over the stingray, when apparently the stingray shot it's barb right at his chest and went right throughout his heart..

So most likely he died instantaneously to this happening.. If not, he wouldn't had more than 2-3 or minutes until he passed away...

Quite sad though.. Especially when he has two children still growing up..

My prayers are with him..

They said he was the 3rd person in the last 100 years to die in Australia of this type of injury.

Usually people step on one and the barb goes into their foot. Which it's easily treatable with very hot water and of course antibiotics. Pain is very intense for a half hour to an hour and trickles off within 48 hours.

But the big misunderstanding here (which makes me sick) is that people think he was poking or prodding the sting ray. HE WAS NOT, he was swimming low to the ground and his chest brushed against one and thats how it happened.

I'd say he died instantly, his heart was pierced and he was injected with venom :(

Hopefully I cleared things up for some of you..I got sick of reading "Oh that idiot was ****ing with stingrays" all over the net..so I went and got the real story.

i feel bad for his kids, he had 2 boys i think and now they wont get to have a dad because he wanted to be a dumbass and risk his life after he was already finacialy stable, what a selfish way to live.

very very sad though.

That was probably the most ignorant thing thats ever fallen out of your mouth. Being selfish? Risking his life? He was swimming...millions of people vacation on beaches every year admist sharks and stingrays. I guess they're dumbasses too huh?

Animals were his life, it figures Negative Nancy has to come in and say something ignorant and unsensitive. It never fails..

if i was in his postion, i would have quit, i loved this guy, but think about how horrible its going to be for his kids, i believe his wife almost died a few years back.

my sister plans on being a marine biologist, and she knows all kinds of stuff about marine life and stuff like that, and apparently what he was doing wasnt really the smartest thing to do, but hey, thats what he did.
