Why does Garland continue to turn down wide open threes....I thought,he would be over it by now.

While,Sexton does need to take more three-point shots.Garland was drafted for his three-point ability.

Coaching

I'm happy with Garland's offensive development and I think there's even more there since he's only 21, but the defense is a problem. Last night he was on Killian Hayes at crunch time and Hayes just took him into the paint for easy 8-foot jumpers or lobs to a big. Garland couldn't keep him from getting to the front of the rim or stop him from knocking down easy shots.

Taller guards are going to abuse him his entire career. Same with Sexton. The question is whether Garland's offensive game will be strong enough to more than overcome his defensive liabilities.

Garland's defense is going to be a huge problem his entire career. At least Sexton can be passable defensively.

That was hard to watch, and it was compounded by several really bad decisions and poorly executed sets on offense. The Cavs didn't look like they knew how they wanted to close things out, nor who they wanted making decisions with the ball down the stretch.

Cavs were out of timeouts late, so there was little chance for going offense/defense, but if ever the situation called for it...

Their both awful defenders, how can people claim Sexton plays good defense?
I give Sexton a bit of a pass the past few games playing through a groin strain. Overall his defense has been improved this season though. He has a more strength and speed to keep up with opposing guards. Just more of a gritty player.

Garland will bring plenty of value as a developing real PG who can become a better sniper as a shooter. I always saw Kyle Lowry as a goal for DG to get up to. I think his defense can get better and less a distraction. Most of these guys are college kids doing college things at 21. By 24? Then you grow into a man.

That said, much like Sexton has issues that hurt his value, Garland's ceiling isn't high enough where teams are going to dole out value. Much like Colin, he will have to be paid. But that is rebuilding. Hopefully we can get partial lotto ball luck and move up into the top 5 and get one of those guys. When we move on from Sexland, good value building around player x will work for all.

well there lies the problem, you can get away hiding one a lot of the time but not two

That is tough. Garland is a really bad defender for a guard. All his defensive metrics are atrocious. He's 76th out of 90 players at PG, in DRPM. And PG is a position where the defensive median is the lowest of any position. If you ranked him as a SG, he's 100th out of 116 players.

Garland profiles as a worse defender than Clarkson, which is a tough look. Physically, he just has too many limitations to ever be a good defender IMO. Just lacks both the frame and athleticism. Conversely asking for his offense to attain a level that overcomes his defensive liabilities seems like a huge ask to me. He roughly needs to be a 4-5 ORPM player.....ala someone like a Trae Young to have long term value at the position. He's currently (-0.11). 2-3 would land him in Clarkson's band.

Garland still needs to avoid the over-dribbling. He gets himself into trouble as well as messes up the spacing on the floor when he handles too much.. gotta give it up and sometimes it won't be for an assist, it will simply be to flip the floor and get the defense moving. The Cavs are pretty easy to defend right now, you just need to stop the drive on Garland and Sexton, take away the lob on Garland, the numbers should play out that you won't lose to Okoro, Prince, Love or Nance on the open 3.

I think you will ultimately need to break these two up. It would hurt a ton less if KPjr had worked out. But you need to stress fit at some point. I think the Cavs have the right kind of players, but they need that 1A building block.

He'll never be a good defender but I think he could at least be average paired with a bigger SG.

Happy I get to watch this guy! His progression this year has been pretty unbelievable. Every time he touches the ball it feels like something special could happen and he’s delivering more and more often.

I'm really loving Darius offensively.
He's getting quicker and bouncier allowing him to get to the rim more, opening up his entire game.
The promising thing is he still has a fair way to go conditioning wise too despite the improvements already.
