I don't think that Tony Allen role exists anymore in today's NBA. Too much of a liability offensively.

He's going to need to make big strides offensively.

Well, Avdija broke his ankle, so at least we dodged that one? :)

I've been saying that a Garland-Okoro backcourt, with a bigger "3" and Sexton off the bench, would be the best path forward for the roster as constructed...

You will lose Sexton in that scenario. He will play on a QO in year 5 then move on or request a trade.

Okoro makes the most sense as the player to come off the bench if we get a bigger SF. He could be the first player off the bench for either Sexton or Garland. It can be a 3 man rotation of Sexton, Garland, and Okoro. Sexton may run the second unit but maintain being a starter.

If I had to put all the eggs in one basket right now I would put them in Garland's basket over Sexton's.

He has more room to grow despite Sexton's work ethic. And he is showing his repertoire.
The only problem I have with this is the fact that, IMO, Garland doesn't get to grow nearly as quickly (or even as much?) if Sexton isn't doing what he's doing right now.

I think if they are going to ultimately trade one of them which I think who we draft this year will ultimately determine that, Garland might be the one to trade to push the team to the next level. Sexton is a undersized SG, his value could be alot lower than what Garland will be on the trade market. I'm not sure what teams will be looking for a undersized SG and be willing to pay equal value back. Someone will pay equal value or greater for a PG like Garland.

Teams usually trade for fit and what they think is their final pieces unless it's an all star. I also think Koby and Gilbert won't want to set the team back by trading Sexton or Garland. We aren't getting a tall PG for Garland or a wing back for Sexton. Garland could get us a wing back though.

Nobody on this team is worth more than three eggs out of a dozen.

Our kids are improving - let’s keep that up and then we’ll have more valuable assets whether we keep them or trade them. It’s too early IMHO to draw conclusions on our players just yet, especially as this has been an awful year to develop players due to Covid and all of our injuries.

Well, I feel like sexton still demands most of the attention from defenses, and in order to get assists Garland has to be able to pass to guys that can make shots and finish.

If Sexton wasn't balling out consistently, defenses would be focusing a lot more on Garland, who seems sometimes (at least earlier on) to freeze or defer in those tough moments.

Maybe I'm off here though, as I haven't paid a lot of attention when Sexton wasn't playing.

Garland, Sexton and an alpha wing will be clunky offensively. Garland has shown an ability to move the ball more than Sexton. Another wing that stops the ball makes things even harder.

Marcus Smart
a high-volume 3 point shooter
Matisse Thybulle
plays 20 mpg (I could see Okoro being in this role if his shot doesn't improve)
Patrick Beverley
a near-40% shooter from deep on decent volume
DeAnthony Melton
Shooting 46% from deep this year on high-volume
Rudy Gibert
He's 7'1 with a 7'9 wingspan and plays center. If Okoro has a growth spurt, he can play the Gobert role. :chuckle:

They would be rotating all three of Garland, Sexton, and whoever we draft this year to keep two of them on the floor together at all times. That will allow Okoro a solid amount of playing time and it would give a decent amount of different lineups to throw at teams. These kind of hockey type lineups changes will become less necessary as we get more talent and guys develop. They basically use them now because it allows our high draft picks to build chemistry with each other. As time goes on, they will want to spread them out over the 48 minutes to keep a balance attack of scoring.

This is my dream brother.

I'm willing to lock Okoro in a gym all summer to see him come back more confident in putting the ball on the floor.

His physique and IQ make him a matchup advantage for us defensively against most backcourts. Only elite defensive 2's like PG, Klay would be able to make his life hard defensively if he develops his ball handling and plays aggressively on offense.

Now that he's getting comfortable on the court, and it's clear he has the skills to play in the league, I'm hoping we'll see him really work on his body this off-season. Getting bigger and stronger needs to be a focal point of his training moving forward.

Hoping his frame is capable of filling out, as that is the big limiting factor for him on defense. If he is going to become a more valuable player, he needs to tread water a little better on that end. His offense has looked great but he's still bleeding away too much of his advanced value because he's getting thrown around so much on defense.

A lot of people want to pick one of Collin / Garland......but at this point, I don't really get that. The Cavs chose a guard tandem I thought they were crazy to chose......relative to the size of each player and their skillsets.......but relative to the point in which they drafted each, it seems like they generally did about as good as they could do.

Both Garland and Sexton have probably exceeded expectations......so I think you honestly, for better or worse, just try to keep them together. Find a wing that can truly compliment them with size and use Okoro as your rotational piece.

I understand how this might be enticing in a vacuum.......but there doesn't seem to be a world in which a 22 year old career 20 PPG scorer is getting moved to the bench. And if that is proposed or executed by a team, you can be certain that guy is gonna GTFO town very quickly. You'd be better off moving Collin for assets if your view was Garland should start at PG and Okoro at SG.
