Does Garland make the same giant leap forward this season if Sexton had not been injured? Wasn't happy to see Colin go down, but may have been a blessing in disguise in terms of Garland's development.

I think he makes a leap no matter what, the wttness of his 3-point shot and imroved vision...or the game slowing down.

But the fact we brought in Rubio helps him a ton and the fact we had defined roles for him and Sexton then Sexton gets hurt giving scroing and ball handling duties to Garland only.

But a leap was coming, but maybe not this big with Sexton remains healthy

Just wonder if He would have developed like this if Sexton didn’t get hurt?

Unknown. This emergence (of Garland) will dictate Sexton’s role going forward, which is a great scenario for Koby.
Sexton has a role on the team if he wants it. There are no Indications that he doesn’t want to to be a part of this organization. Dude is one of the hardest workers in the league. He was trying to integrate prior to his injury- the biggest issue I saw was closing time and who was doing it. If anything, it’s exciting for the Cavs to have such a piece coming back next year If they want it.

I had some doubts about Garland and I'll own up to being wrong about those. However, in fairness it wasn't really a physical skill thing for me... it was a head game thing for me. He just seemed meek and self doubting, often throwing up his hands when things went wrong and not shooting the ball or being aggressive.

Now he attacks, is aggressive, doesn't back down and literally took over the game last night. If the Cavs had a sports psychologist that worked with Garland, he or she needs a massive raise.

Very rare for guys to change their persona.

It does help though to have no one else on the floor that would want to be the playmaker from near center court. Sexton would compete with him for reps and you wonder if Garland might defer to him at times. On the positive side, they could each get a few breather possessions on offense. Be fun to plug in Sexton to this team, but you don't want the old version that dominates shots. He seems like a team guy that might adjust, but his best role is almost certainly as 6th man. That is a big change.

Not sure it was a change in “persona”. The NBA is incredibly elite compared to college where Darius didn’t play much. It takes time for kids only a year out of high school to get acclimated to the NBA. That goes double for point guards.

Even an incredibly skilled and polished player like Mobley will be far more aggressive in future years and maybe later this season.

As well as this team has played this season - we will get a LOT better when our young bucks get more seasoning.

Also I suspect playing with Team USA and under Pop for a bit helped as well.
