Your initial assumptions might just be full of shit. In my case I was young (same age as Garland), just coming right out of college athletics, in peak condition with very high percentage of muscle mass and very low percentage of body fat, and in extremely excellent cardiovascular health. I was working extreme long hours in some of the most physically demanding occupations out there at the time. That's when I "tweaked" my back enough to see a doctor who was only interested in establishing frequent patient visits to pad his bank account. I shitcanned him and saw other doctors who quickly and easily cleared up my temporary issues.I enjoy everybody's stories about their own back pain (caused primarily by sitting in an office chair for too many hours and eating too many potato chips) and their ability to compare them to a professional athlete being monitored by an entire medical staff....
Presumably the Cavs are aware of Garland back issues - and also know what is causing it.... Some back issues will be chronic (disks, spinal issues, etc.) - some could get worse if you keep playing (muscle injuries), some (generic inflammation) probably won't get any worse if you keep playing, but will require rest to get better. Some will go away on their own.
Pretty much impossible to tell what the right call is without more information -- which I'm sure the team has.
Once I got past your bullshit assumption, I can say I agree with the second half of what you said.
