I enjoy everybody's stories about their own back pain (caused primarily by sitting in an office chair for too many hours and eating too many potato chips) and their ability to compare them to a professional athlete being monitored by an entire medical staff....

Presumably the Cavs are aware of Garland back issues - and also know what is causing it.... Some back issues will be chronic (disks, spinal issues, etc.) - some could get worse if you keep playing (muscle injuries), some (generic inflammation) probably won't get any worse if you keep playing, but will require rest to get better. Some will go away on their own.

Pretty much impossible to tell what the right call is without more information -- which I'm sure the team has.
Your initial assumptions might just be full of shit. In my case I was young (same age as Garland), just coming right out of college athletics, in peak condition with very high percentage of muscle mass and very low percentage of body fat, and in extremely excellent cardiovascular health. I was working extreme long hours in some of the most physically demanding occupations out there at the time. That's when I "tweaked" my back enough to see a doctor who was only interested in establishing frequent patient visits to pad his bank account. I shitcanned him and saw other doctors who quickly and easily cleared up my temporary issues.

Once I got past your bullshit assumption, I can say I agree with the second half of what you said.

Thank you.

Total bullshit assumption.

I was eating veggie straws before a switch to jerky.

Yeah, based on how he moves there Garland is clearly debilitated to the point where he can hardly walk and needs to be sidelined immediately (Not).

I am in favor of a cautious approach. I think he needs more rest and the weight of the team's success is squarely on his shoulders, but his issue seems like something stiffening or tightening up with fatigue and exertion. I'm sure the team trainers are on top of this and they'll handle it accordingly, but it will probably take more focus on back health over the off-season to put it behind him for the longer term. In the meantime they'll just have to manage it.

He was the consensus so it would have been hard not to draft Barrett. Waiting 3 years for Darius to come on doesn't seem like something they would have been able to do either. Hilarious

The fan base that really should be mad about not getting Garland (or Hunter) is the Pelicans. That trade down didn't make sense at the time and makes less sense now.

It was rumored that the Cavs were hot for RJ too... kind of like Cade/Mobley, we might have gotten lucky not to have drafted #3 overall in 2019 or #1 this year.

I also think the stuff that happen at #4 also helped alot. The Cavs also were rumored to like Hunter alot too. If the Laker don't trade for AD, Garland was rumored to be their pick. The Pelicans then make that dumb trade down so the Hawks can take Hunter. I'm not sure we take Garland if Hunter is still in the board.

Was always waiting for Boobie Gibson to turn the corner and play the game DG is today.
Boobie was the only guy who could shut down LaMarcus Aldridge in college.
(side note, this joke never gets old.. except is has gotten really old)

Totally agree on NO not taking Darius. Big miss. NAW and Kaxon Hayes whoa. Not good.

Really interesting question is if the Lakers don't make a trade for AD.

Lebron
Hart
Darius
Ingram
Ball

and all those picks.

I guess the Lakers did the right thing because they won one of the easiest chips. Still what NO and LA have been able to do with all those assets is poor.

Best long range shooter in the game:

only Trae, Stephen Curry, and Damian Lillard have taken more 30-footers this season, and Garland’s made them more often (43.2 percent) than all of them...
J.B. Bickerstaff said that Darius Garland is in a similar vein to Mike Conley where both Garland and Conley have people flock to them and want to go to war with them on the court.
