Darius Garland has agreed to a five-year, $193M max extension with the Cavaliers, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.​

The deal, which could be worth up to $231M with incentives, is the largest in franchise history. Garland took an incredible leap forward last year as Cleveland came just a play-in game shy of making the playoffs, averaging 21.7 points, 8.6 assists, 3.3 boards, 1.3 steals and 2.6 triples - all career-high marks. He should be an early-to-mid-round selection in 2022-23 fantasy basketball drafts, especially if Collin Sexton gets moved before the season starts.

They should mostly be tied to team success. I know it won't happen because that's just how these things go, but last season it felt like everyone (including, possibly, some players) spent way too much time worrying about various individual accolades. That was the same period when the season got derailed a bit.

So how does it get to 231?

It’s based entirely on next year. If he’s All-NBA for the 22/23 season, he gets $231 million.

If he’s not next season, and only next season, he gets $193 million. Even if he hits All-NBA each of the following 4 years.

I believe those are the only incentives that are allowed. It is already a Max Contract. Incentives for All NBA are directly in the CBA.

All-NBA is top 15. He’s not there yet, and I don’t think it will be easy for him to get there next season.
